We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Doctor (or equivalent) with a background in biostatistics, public health, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) to join our team as an M&E Intern. This role is essential in supporting the implementation of M&E activities for the BEAT Breast Cancer Project in Zanzibar. Under the supervision of the M&E Assistant, and with mentorship from the Program/Technical Officer,
the intern will:
- Support data collection, entry, analysis, and reporting related to breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and patient navigation care.
- Work closely with health facilities and District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) to ensure data quality and timely reporting.
- Facilitate data verification visits and mentor healthcare providers in documentation and data use.
- Make follow up of confirmed breast cancer patient.

Expected deliverables
- Collaborate with M&E, Program and technical teams to plan and execute M&E activities.
- Conduct data quality assessments and support structured verification exercises.
- Assist in preparing quarterly and annual reports.
- Provide technical support at health facilities and outreach sites.
- Analyze trends and provide data-driven recommendations for program improvement.
- In collaboration with DHMTs, to support patient navigation efforts by:
i. Assisting in tracking patients from screening through diagnosis and treatment.
ii. Coordinating with healthcare providers to ensure timely follow-up and referral.
iii. Identifying and addressing barriers to care, including logistical or informational challenges.
iv. Supporting documentation and reporting of patient navigation outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with demonstrated experience in biostatistics, public health, or M&E.
- At least 1 year of experience in health program monitoring and evaluation.
- Proficiency in digital data management tools (e.g., Excel, DHIS2, KoboToolbox, Power BI).
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel to health facilities and outreach sites within Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba Islands).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Good communication skills and Computer literate
