About the Role
The Mental Health Professional will provide direct psychological assessment, counseling, and therapeutic interventions to individuals, families, and groups. The role involves community-based mental health promotion, crisis intervention, referrals, and capacity-building of staff and community volunteers in psychological first aid and basic mental health support.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and risk screenings (suicide, self-harm, safeguarding).
- Provide individual, group, couples, and family counseling using evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, TF-CBT, IPT, motivational interviewing).
- Deliver psychological first aid (PFA) and crisis intervention to individuals affected by trauma, displacement, or emergencies.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and ethical clinical records and case files.
- Refer clients to specialized services (psychiatry, legal, medical, protection) and follow up on referrals.
- Facilitate community awareness sessions on mental health, stigma reduction, and coping skills.
- Train and supervise community health workers, volunteers, and partner staff on MHPSS basics.
- Monitor and report on activity indicators, outcomes, and challenges.
- Adhere to organizational policies, professional ethics, and national mental health protocols.
- Participate in case conferences, supervision, and continuous professional development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, or related field.
- [2–5]+ years of clinical experience, preferably in humanitarian or community settings.
- Valid professional license/certification to practice [in country].
- Training in trauma-informed care, CBT, or PFA is an advantage.
- Experience working with refugees, IDPs, children, or survivors of GBV is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent listening, empathy, and communication skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in volatile environments.
