About the Role
The Maintenance Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that every aspect of Enkare Emmanyata Lodge operates safely, efficiently, and to the highest hospitality standards.
From guest villas and public areas to vehicles, utilities, and essential infrastructure, this role is responsible for maintaining the physical environment that supports exceptional guest experiences. The successful candidate will carry out preventive maintenance, respond promptly to repairs, oversee utility systems, and contribute to Enkare's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
This is a hands-on position requiring technical competence, initiative, and a proactive approach to property maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance
- Implement and maintain the lodge's preventive maintenance programme across guest villas, public areas, staff facilities, and infrastructure.
- Conduct daily inspections of buildings, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and outdoor facilities.
- Perform routine servicing and maintenance of generators, water pumps, solar systems, and utility infrastructure.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance for lodge vehicles in collaboration with drivers.
- Inspect and maintain kitchen equipment in partnership with the Head Chef.
- Ensure fences, pathways, gates, outdoor furniture, landscaping features, and other external facilities remain in excellent condition.
Repairs & Maintenance
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritize issues that directly affect guest comfort and safety.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and general building faults within assigned competencies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, recording reported issues, actions taken, and completion status.
- Coordinate specialist contractors where advanced repairs are required and supervise work to completion.
- Manage maintenance tools, spare parts, and consumable supplies, reporting replenishment needs to management.
Utilities & Sustainability
- Monitor electricity usage, solar generation, battery performance, generator operation, and fuel consumption.
- Monitor water supply systems, storage tanks, pumps, and plumbing infrastructure.
- Support environmentally responsible waste management, including recycling and composting initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, water conservation, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate, Diploma, or Vocational Qualification in Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, Building Maintenance, or a related trade.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in maintenance within a lodge, hotel, resort, commercial property, construction, or similar environment.
- Practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance works.
- Experience operating and maintaining diesel generators and utility systems.
- Ability to interpret maintenance manuals, technical instructions, and safety procedures.
- Valid Tanzanian driving licence.
- Basic written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of solar energy systems is an added advantage.
