The Residence Zanzibar is a luxury five-star resort operated by Cenizaro Hotels & Resorts seeking to recruit a Main Accountant based in Zanzibar. The role is responsible for overseeing the resort’s full accounting and financial reporting function, ensuring accurate financial management, strong internal controls, and compliance with both local statutory requirements and group accounting standards.

The position involves managing day-to-day financial operations while ensuring timely and accurate reporting of the resort’s financial position. The Main Accountant plays a central role in maintaining financial discipline, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring the integrity of accounting processes across the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements as well as internal management reports.
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support financial planning and performance tracking.
  • Ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, statutory requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Supervising, guiding, and mentoring the accounting team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality of financial outputs.
  • Coordinating with external auditors and managing the annual audit process from planning to completion.
  • Monitoring cash flow management, including bank reconciliations and tracking of financial transactions.
  • Implementing and maintaining robust accounting systems, processes, and procedures aligned with hospitality group standards.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably within the hospitality or hotel industry.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Good understanding of local tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team and stakeholder engagement.
