Objective of the role

The Interim Facilities Maintenance Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the company’s maintenance and facilities function during a six-month assignment.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful candidate will assume overall responsibility for ensuring the reliability, safety and efficiency of the company’s buildings, greenhouses, infrastructure, utilities and technical assets.

The role requires an experienced facilities leader who can quickly integrate into the business, lead the maintenance team, manage contractors, drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure uninterrupted support to the company’s operations throughout the contract period.

Key responsibilities

The Interim Facilities Maintenance Manager will:

  • Provide overall leadership and accountability for the company’s facilities maintenance function during the six-month interim assignment.
  • Lead the planning, implementation and continuous improvement of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability and minimise operational downtime.
  • Oversee the maintenance, performance and continuous improvement of buildings, greenhouses, utilities, irrigation systems, mechanical equipment, electrical installations and other technical infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies that improve asset reliability, optimise equipment lifecycle and support operational excellence.
  • Lead, coach and supervise the maintenance team by setting priorities, allocating resources, monitoring performance and promoting a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor maintenance performance through key performance indicators, analyse trends and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and reduce equipment failures.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets, ensuring effective cost control while maintaining high service standards.
  • Manage external contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on time and in accordance with agreed quality standards.
  • Lead facility improvement, refurbishment and infrastructure maintenance projects, ensuring effective planning, execution and successful delivery.
  • Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, environmental standards and all applicable statutory and company requirements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide regular reports and technical recommendations to senior management on asset performance, maintenance priorities and operational improvements.

Qualifications and skills

Candidates must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least seven years of progressive experience in facilities or maintenance management, including at least three years in a leadership role.
  • Full registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Professional Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams within a complex operational or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of facilities management, utilities, building infrastructure, asset management and maintenance best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing maintenance budgets, contractors and service providers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, planning, stakeholder management and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Availability to commence employment at short notice.
