Job Description:

People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company operating in Tanzania. As the organization expands its mining and mineral processing operations, it is seeking an experienced Hydrologist / Water Management Specialist to lead the assessment, development, and sustainable management of the project's water resources.

This is an exciting opportunity for a water resources professional to play a critical role in ensuring reliable water supply, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability across mining, processing, and site support operations.

The Hydrologist / Water Management Specialist will be responsible for planning, assessing, and managing both groundwater and surface water resources to support mining and processing activities. The successful candidate will develop water management strategies, oversee hydrological investigations, monitor water resources, and ensure responsible water use while maintaining compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

General Responsibilities:

Water Resources Assessment & Management

• Conduct hydrological and hydrogeological assessments to support mining, mineral processing, and site infrastructure development.
• Evaluate groundwater potential and identify suitable borehole locations, drilling depths, and development programmes.
• Assess surface water catchments, seasonal water flows, drainage systems, runoff characteristics, and flood risks.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive site-wide water balance covering abstraction, storage, processing, recycling, discharge, and water losses.
• Forecast current and future water demand to support plant operations, accommodation facilities, and mining activities.

Groundwater & Surface Water Monitoring

• Plan and supervise borehole drilling, aquifer testing, pump testing, groundwater monitoring, and water quality sampling programmes.
• Establish groundwater, surface water, and water quality monitoring systems to ensure long-term resource sustainability.
• Analyse hydrological and hydrogeological data to support operational planning and environmental management.
• Interpret water quality data and recommend corrective actions where necessary.

Engineering & Infrastructure Support

• Provide technical input into the design and review of boreholes, pumps, pipelines, storage tanks, drainage systems, culverts, ponds, and other water management infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure water infrastructure is designed for operational efficiency and long-term reliability.
• Support infrastructure expansion and site development projects by providing specialist water management expertise.

Project & Contractor Management

• Coordinate activities involving drilling contractors, laboratories, engineers, environmental consultants, surveyors, and government authorities.
• Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, tender documentation, contractor evaluations, and project budgets.
• Monitor contractor performance to ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with technical specifications.
• Prepare technical reports, hydrological studies, monitoring summaries, risk assessments, and management recommendations.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

• Present findings and technical advice to management and project stakeholders.
• Train and mentor site personnel on water monitoring procedures, responsible water use, and environmental best practices.
• Promote a culture of sustainable water management across all site operations
