Responsibilities 

  • Regular attendance and participation in safety and tool box meetings.
  • Assist in the development of tenders and pricing of works.
  • Support Rail lead in delivery of projects when required.
  • In depth protection relay analysis via secondary injection to prove functionality and accuracy of various protection elements using state of the art test equipment.
  • Circuit continuity and loop impedance checks.
  • Detailed inspection of protection and ancillary equipment.
  • Insulation resistance measurements to relevant standards.
  • Carrying out switching on high voltage network.
  • Perform relay self-test procedures and external communications checks on digital/numerical relays.
  • Detailed analysis of protection and metering current transformers and voltage transformer testing.
  • Trip and alarm circuit functional checks to prove correct operation.
  • Primary injection tests on each relay to prove stability for external faults and to determine effective current setting for internal faults.
  • Interrogation of fault events and disturbance records after relay operation.
  • Performing FAT's and SATs on a wide range of protection relays including GE, Siemens, ABB, SEL, and Alstom and Schneider.
  • As-building single line diagrams and protection drawings.
  • Continuous improvement of operational efficiencies and performance.
  • Ensuring a high level of customer service and effective relationship management.

Qualification requirements

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or Trade certificate with equivalent appropriate experience 
  • Extensive experience with HV/LV Electric Motors/Transformers/Statcoms.
  • HV/LV switching and control systems.
  • HV/LV cable jointing, terminations.
  • Excellent knowledge of High/Low Voltage systems and Switchgear complete with protection. 
  • Standby Generators/Power Systems. 
  • Reading Electrical drawings (Schematic and Single Line Diagrams).
  • Exceptional skills in field Electrical maintenance, fault-finding and troubleshooting. 
  • Installations, calibrating and maintaining all instrumentation, HMI, PLC, SCADA on CAF plants, batch plants, Paste plant and power generation. 
  • Minearc maintenance & inspections.
  • High voltage switching certificate.
  • Instrumentation qualification/experience.
  • RCT teleremote qualification/experience.
  • Minearc qualification/experience.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian electrical regulations and Australian Electrical Standards.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, Pronto/SAP Autosketch/AutoCAD

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Must have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role (High Voltage Electrician).
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license.
  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
  • Underground /Surface Mining industry experience.
