Direct Reports: Godown Supervisors, RM Supervisor, Spares & Consumables Supervisor, Finished Goods Supervisor, Dispatch

Job summary

Turkys Mifuko is a non-woven bag manufacturer based in Zanzibar, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on Head of Inventory to own the full inventory management function – from raw material receipt through to finished goods dispatch. This is a controls-focused, operational role requiring someone who understands manufacturing stock dynamics, can implement discipline in receiving and issuing processes, and can manage a team of supervisors across multiple stock categories.

Key responsibilities

Inventory control & management

  • Own and manage all stock categories: raw materials (PP, filler, masterbatch), spares & consumables, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
  • Enforce stock receiving, issuing, and counting procedures across all warehouses.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and reconcile physical stock against system records.
  • Maintain accurate stock records and ensure real-time visibility of inventory levels.
  • Monitor reorder levels and minimum stock thresholds to prevent production stoppages.

Procurement support & coordination

  • Raise purchase requisitions based on stock levels and production requirements.
  • Coordinate with the GM and RD for raw material purchasing approvals.
  • Ensure all goods received are properly documented, inspected, and matched against purchase orders.
  • Support supplier shortlisting and due diligence processes as required.

Dispatch & outbound logistics

  • Oversee the dispatch function to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment.
  • Ensure finished goods are properly documented and dispatched against confirmed orders.
  • Coordinate with the sales team on delivery timelines and godown stock availability.

Controls & reporting

  • Implement segregation of duties across the requisition, receiving, and issuance cycle.
  • Ensure no single person completes the full purchase-to-pay cycle without independent verification.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inventory reports including stock movement, variance analysis, and ageing.
  • Report to the General Manager on stock risks, slow-moving items, and inventory health.

Team leadership

  • Supervise and develop the RM Supervisor, Spares & Consumables Supervisor, Finished Goods Supervisor, and Dispatch personnel.
  • Establish clear KRAs and KPIs for each team member and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and operational discipline within the team.

Qualifications & experience

  • Degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in inventory or warehouse management, of which at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing stock across multiple categories (raw materials, spares, finished goods).
  • Hands-on experience with stock control systems and physical counting procedures.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems – for stock tracking, reporting, and reconciliation.
  • Experience implementing or working within SOPs and approval frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian customs and import documentation is an advantage.
