The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) is a reputable and rapidly expanding non-governmental organization committed to wildlife research, conservation, socio-economic development, and environmental education. The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) was founded in 2001 by Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE. The JGI Tanzania with its partners makes a difference through community cantered conservation, chimpanzees research projects, youths' environmental education, the innovative use of science and technology, we work closely with local communities in Tanzania, inspiring hope through a collective power of individual action.

The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to support implementation of the new USAID funded project. Tumaini Kupitia Vitendo (TKV) is currently seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and competent Tanzanian to fill the following vacant positions:

Job Summary:
The GIS Analyst will work closely with the Data Management person to enhance an integrated science and knowledge management system, capaci ty, and resources designed to execute a holistic, collaborative, and systems-based approach supporting all aspects of data collection, analysis, and use, generating actionable insights, and improving decisions across the entire project. The job holder will leverage and use JGI's Science and Knowledge Platform powered by Esri's ArcGIS Online and other technologies to provide standards, protocols, databases, workflows, solutions, and tools, and enable data collection, management, analysis, and use. The job holder will work with all project IRs and cross-cutting elements to custom- ize and use JGfs Science and Knowledge Platform by supporting the following activities:
• Data Collection focus on properly engaging, active listening, and understanding decision-making processes and information needs while providing data standards, data collection protocols, and data models, technologies, and tools to assure that ongoing conservation decision-making processes are evidence-based.
• Data Management: working closely with the Data Management person to ensure that project data are standardized, cleaned, organized, and stored in appropriate databases online and integrated and centrally managed as part of JGI Science and Knowledge Platform.
• Data Analysis and Modeling: to integrate data across the entire project and ask questions and test hypothesis in a more holistic way, better supporting individual IRs and cross-cutting elements.
• Data Visualization, Sharing and Use: to fully leverage and use the JGI Science and Knowledge Platform and work closely with all the IRs and crosscutting elements to make complex and dynamic data and information accessible for users of all experience levels.

Essential Functions:
Main responsibilities will include but not limited to:
• Support Mapping tasks
• Work closely with Program GIS Officer and Land Use Planning Officers in supporting planning, mapping tasks particularly Land Use Plans. Forest and chimp habitat monitoring:
• Apply Remote Sensing Technology to utilize available satellite images and operating UAVs to monitor forest and chimp habitat and provide update on status to government authorities and project management.
• Provide regular technical support and advice to Village Forest Monitors (FMs) across the project area particularly during data uploading and sharing of data.
• Consult with FMs to ensure that their efforts in monitoring village forests are consistent as agreed to avoid gaps which could be used by trespassers to encroach reserved village forest reserves.
• Organize short term trainings to FMs to improve their monitoring and data collection skills using Survey 123 and smartphones.
• Analyze and produce FM Quarter Report showing status and trend of wildlife and threats within village forests and corridors. Prepare and submit activity reports in a timely manner.
• And any other job as may be assigned to you by your supervisor or his/her designee.

Minimum Job Qualifications and other Requirements:
• Graduate degree in GIS, Geoinformation, Geography & Environment Studies, or related field with practical experience in using GIS Software particularly ArcGIS.
• At least 3 years working experience in Geospatial Technical support to large conservation programs particularly community conservation projects. o Ability to use GIS Applications preferably ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Experience with using Postgres databases and managing data in a cloud environment [Azure or AWS)
• Experience in using R and Python and in using data manipulation libraries (e.g. pandas, tidyverse).
• Ability to customize electronic data collection, integration, management and sharing tools such ArcGIS Online. Survey123. Field Maps. Quick capture, dashboards, story maps etc.
• Should be experienced drone pilot with a certificate authenticating his/her ability to fly drones issued by TCCAA.
• Ability to work under pressure, tight deadlines and less supervision, self-motivated person, team player, reporting and presentation skills.
• Good Communication skills-fluent in Swahili and English, both verbal and written.
• Other relevant tasks as assigned by the JGI Chief of Party or his/her designee.
