Background

The Tanzania Sunflower Processors Association (TASUPA) is a national-level membership organization committed to promoting and protecting the interests of sunflower oil processors across Tanzania. TASUPA plays a vital role in coordinating the sector, advocating for policies and regulations that support industry growth, facilitating value chain development, and contributing to the production of a competitive, high-quality, and sustainable edible oil industry.

To ensure quality standards and promote innovation in sunflower oil processing, TASUPA is seeking a qualified Food Technologist Officer to provide technical expertise in food safety, quality assurance, and product development. This role is essential for supporting members in adopting best practices, complying with regulatory requirements, and improving the competitiveness of sunflower-based products.

Position Overview

The Food Technologist Officer will be responsible for ensuring that sunflower oil processors adhere to food safety and quality standards, supporting product development, and promoting innovation within the sector. The officer will provide technical guidance on processing techniques, quality control systems, and compliance with national and international standards. Additionally, the role involves conducting training members, monitoring quality assurance processes, and supporting initiatives that enhance product value and consumer confidence.

Key Responsibilities

3.1 Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Develop and implement quality control systems for sunflower oil processing.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards (TBS, TFDA, and international benchmarks).
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of member facilities to monitor adherence to quality standards.
  • Prepare reports on compliance status and recommend corrective actions.

3.2 Technical Support and Capacity Building

  • Provide technical advice on processing techniques, storage, and packaging to maintain product integrity.
  • Organize training sessions and workshops for members on food safety, hygiene, and quality assurance.
  • Support members in adopting innovative technologies and practices that improve efficiency and product quality.

3.3 Product Development and Innovation

  • Assist in developing new sunflower-based products and improving existing ones.
  • Research and recommend best practices for fortification, shelf-life extension, and value addition.
  • Promote sustainable and climate-resilient processing methods.

3.4 Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of quality audits, training sessions, and technical support provided.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management and stakeholders on quality and innovation initiatives.

Core Competencies Required

  • Strong knowledge of food technology, quality assurance, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to conduct audits and implement quality control systems.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Food Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in food processing, quality assurance, or product development.
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian and international food safety standards.
  • Experience in capacity building and technical advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of oilseed processing and edible oil industry is an added advantage.
