Position: Financial Accountant

Job Summary

The Financial Accountant will oversee the supermarket’s financial operations, including cash management, banking activities, inventory reconciliation, supplier accounts, fixed asset management, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will also support audit processes and provide operational leadership when required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Cash Management

  • Manage daily cash operations, including supplier payments.
  • Receive cash from cashiers at the end of each shift.
  • Issue cash floats to cashiers.
  • Manage the supermarket’s main petty cash.
  • Ensure sufficient cash is available to meet supplier payment obligations.

Banking Operations

  • Ensure daily cash sales are deposited into the bank on the following working day.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations.
  • Conduct routine cash-count reconciliations.

Inventory Management

  • Reconcile physical stock movements with inventory records maintained in the accounting system.
  • Monitor expired, damaged, or defective products.
  • Track the movement of bakery raw materials and analyze production efficiency based on raw material usage.

Fixed Asset Management

  • Maintain an accurate fixed asset register.
  • Ensure company assets are properly recorded, monitored, and maintained.

Supplier Management

  • Maintain supplier records, particularly for suppliers providing goods on credit.
  • Monitor supplier credit terms and payment schedules.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
  • Record and analyze all financial transactions promptly within the accounting system.
  • Prepare financial reports as requested by company directors.
  • Support both internal and external audit processes.
  • Assist the organization in achieving clean audit reports.

Operational Support

  • Assume managerial responsibilities when the shop manager is unavailable.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to shop-floor attendants when necessary.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A degree from a recognized institute or college in Tanzania.
  • A CPA qualification, which will be an added advantage.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working in the retail or supermarket industry, which will be an added advantage.
  • Willingness to work long hours when required.
  • Ability to start work at short notice.
  • Residence in Kimara or Mbezi is preferred.
