Westerwelle Startup Haus Arusha is recruiting a Finance and Operations Assistant based in Arusha. The role is an entry-level position designed to provide practical experience in finance, accounting, and office operations within a fast-paced startup and innovation environment. The assistant works under the Finance and Operations Manager and supports both financial administration and general office management functions.

The position focuses on ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, supporting budgeting and reporting processes, and maintaining smooth day-to-day operational workflows. It is suitable for early-career professionals who are detail-oriented, organized, and interested in building skills in finance, compliance, and organizational operations.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Assisting in tracking budgets and identifying any unusual or unapproved expenditures.
  • Maintaining up-to-date financial records and supporting preparation of basic financial reports.
  • Monitoring expenses to ensure they remain within approved budgets.
  • Processing payments, invoices, and staff expense claims in line with internal procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial policies, donor requirements, and applicable legal standards.
  • Supporting audit processes by collecting and organizing required documentation.
  • Entering and updating financial data in QuickBooks and Airtable systems.
  • Assisting with tax and regulatory compliance requirements in Tanzania.
  • Organizing and maintaining financial and administrative filing systems.
  • Supporting procurement processes and communication with suppliers.
  • Managing office inventory and maintaining asset records.
  • Assisting in organizing logistics for meetings, events, and travel arrangements.
  • Supporting contract management and internal policy compliance.
  • Contributing to efficient office operations and a professional working environment for staff and partners.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow structured procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic startup environment.

Experience needed

  • 1–2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or administrative roles.
