Background
The Dental Laboratory Technologist designs, constructs, and repairs dental prostheses (e.g., crowns, bridges, dentures, and orthodontic appliances) based on prescriptions from the Dental Surgeon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fabrication: Construct dental appliances using materials like acrylics, ceramics, and metals.
- Casting: Take impressions and fabricate models of the patient's teeth and gums.
- Repairs: Repair broken dentures, crowns, and orthodontic retainers.
- Customization: Ensure that the color, shape, and size of prosthetics match the patient's natural teeth.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished products for defects, fit, and function before delivery to the dentist.
- Equipment: Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment (furnaces, casting machines).
- Inventory: Manage dental materials stock and order supplies.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Dental Technology.
- Registration with the Medical and Dental Council as a Dental Technologist.
Skills:
- Artistic eye and attention to fine details.
- Manual dexterity and precision.
- Knowledge of dental anatomy and occlusion.
