Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit an Auto Electrician and Automation Foreman to join and grow our team. This role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance of all electrical systems on underground mobile equipment. This includes oversight of conventional auto electrical (12/24V), advanced automation/control systems, and specialized high voltage (HV) electrical systems. The Foreman leads a team of skilled electricians and technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, technical standards, and operational targets to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance in a challenging underground environment. To ensure activities in the Engineering and Services department are effectively planned and undertaken safely and cost-effectively to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Lead, supervise, train, and mentor a team of Auto Electricians, Automation Technicians, and HV Electricians
  • Assign and prioritize daily, weekly, and major repairs, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and completion of work.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks, performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture, technical excellence, continuous improvement, and strong teamwork within the electrical department.
  • Coordinate team schedules, shift rotations, and ensure appropriate staffing levels to support 24/7 operations
  • Enforce strict adherence to all Barrick safety standards, mine acts, electrical codes, and environmental regulations, with particular emphasis on high voltage safety.
  • Ensure proper application of Lock-Out/Tag-Out and Try Out (LOTOTO), Permit to Work (PTW) systems, arc flash procedures, and mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments on electrical work areas and equipment.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations (RCFA) for electrical failures or safety incidents, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Promote and manage electrical safety training for the team, including HV rescue procedures
  • Provide advanced technical expertise, oversight, and guidance for diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electrical systems, including:
    • Auto Electrical (12/24V DC): Lighting, starting/charging, wiring harnesses, general vehicle electronics, communication systems (radio, tracking).
    • Automation & Control Systems: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), sensor integration, data acquisition, advanced mobile equipment control logic, and network diagnostics.
    • High Voltage (HV) Systems: Power distribution, large electric motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), transformers, switchgear, cable splicing/termination/testing
  • Ensure the use of appropriate diagnostic tools (e.g., multi-meters, oscilloscopes, thermal imagers, hippo testers, software) for accurate fault finding.
  • Oversee the execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all electrical components of underground mobile equipment (e.g., LHDs, jumbos, haul trucks, shotcrete & other ancillary machines).
  • Collaborate with the Planning and Reliability Superintendent, other Foremen, and Operations to plan, schedule, and prioritize electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure timely requisitioning and management of spare parts, tools, and materials for electrical work.
  • Manage and coordinate external contractors, OEMs, and specialist vendors for specific electrical tasks, diagnostics, and warranty claims.
  • Provide input into budget forecasting and resource allocation for the electrical department
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for electrical maintenance, such as Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), equipment availability, and maintenance backlog.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and testing within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Generate regular reports on electrical performance, issues, and improvement initiatives for management.
  • Actively identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability, maintainability, and electrical system performance.
  • Evaluate and recommend new electrical technologies, diagnostic tools, and automation solutions relevant to underground mobile equipment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and OEMs to implement modifications, upgrades, and best practices.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new electrical codes, and emerging technologies, particularly in battery-electric vehicle systems and advanced automation
  • Environmental monitoring, compliance, and reporting.
  • Provide feedback to OEM to enable improvements to the equipment or its operation.
  • Develop and upskill the national workforce.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent recognized electrical trade qualification/license.
  • Specialized certifications or formal training in High Voltage (HV) safety, operations, and maintenance

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience as a qualified electrician, with a substantial portion dedicated to heavy mobile equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • At least 3-5 years of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in an electrical team, preferably in an underground setting
  • Working in Remote locations
  • Min 5 years working with Sandvik Equipment’s
