Background

Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) is undergoing strategic re-engineering and rebranding to align with emerging developments in journalism and mass communication, legal education, language and communication skills and library and information studies.

As part of this transformation, DarTU aims to strengthen its academic and technological capacity to address emerging trends and to deliver innovative and industry-responsive academic programs.

In pursuit of this goal, DarTU seeks to recruit qualified, dynamic, and proactive candidates for the following positions:

Associate Professor in Journalism and Mass Communication — 2 posts

School: School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS)

Qualifications and experience

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree, Masters degree and a PhD in Journalism and Mass Communication from accredited higher learning institutions.

A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0 or a B+ score in Master’s Degree and a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 5.0 in Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.

Must have at least 6 years of post-PhD work experience.

Must have experience in teaching, participation in relevant research and publications.

Preferred areas of specialization include:

  • Journalism and Multimedia Communication.
  • Strategic Communication and Public Relations.
  • Digital Media and Emerging Communication Technologies.
  • Media Law, Ethics and Policy.
  • Communication Research and Development Communication.

Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.

Duties and responsibilities

Participate in the University induction program and undertake pedagogical skills training where prior training in teaching methodology has not been undertaken.

Deliver lectures, seminars, practical sessions and assessments for both postgraduate and undergraduate students.

Provide academic and administrative leadership at the level of the Department, School or Directorate.

Mentor and guide junior academic and professional staff in relevant fields of specialization.

Participate in the development, review, and implementation of academic curricula and instructional materials.

Develop, coordinate, and manage various university activities and programs.

Conduct high-quality research, publish scholarly work in reputable journals, and disseminate findings for academic and societal impact.

Engage in consultancy services and participate in community outreach and extension programs.

Publish books and/or book chapters that advance the frontiers of knowledge.

Formulate academic policies and offer technical assistance to the university.

Supervise field practical, undergraduate special projects, Master’s and PhD theses/dissertations.

Organize and participate in workshops, conferences and symposia.

Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the relevant university authorities.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates, commensurate with their qualifications and experience.
