Background

Dar es Salaam Tumaini University (DarTU) is undergoing strategic re-engineering and rebranding to align with emerging developments in journalism and mass communication, legal education, language and communication skills and library and information studies.

As part of this transformation, DarTU aims to strengthen its academic and technological capacity to address emerging trends and to deliver innovative and industry-responsive academic programs.

In pursuit of this goal, DarTU seeks to recruit qualified, dynamic, and proactive candidates for the following positions:

Assistant Lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication — 2 posts

Qualifications and experience

Possession of a Masters degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication or any other related field from accredited higher learning institutions.

A GPA of at least 4.0 out of 5.0 or a B+ score in Master’s Degree and a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 5.0 in Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent.

Must have experience in teaching and research.

Preferred areas of specialization include:

  • Newspaper Journalism.
  • News Writing and Reporting.
  • Print Media Production and Broadcast Journalism.
  • Digital Media and Multimedia Communication.
  • Media Ethics and Communication Law.
  • Emerging Communication Trends.

Strong command of spoken and written English is essential.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures and tutorials under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Assist in course material preparation and assessments.
  • Participate in departmental research and academic activities.
  • Support students in academic projects and provide academic advice.
  • Pursue professional development and attend departmental meetings.
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the relevant university authorities.

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates, commensurate with their qualifications and experience.
