Job title: Assistant Accountant
Location: Mwanza, Tanzania
Compensation: TZS 800,000 net salary (fixed)
Job purpose
Tabono Consult Limited is seeking a highly capable, autonomous and rigorous Accounts Assistant to join its team in Mwanza.
The ideal candidate must have four to five years of dedicated accounting and administrative experience within the pharmaceutical industry. The role requires a high level of independence, and the successful candidate must be able to manage daily financial, accounting and administrative activities effectively without day-to-day supervisory oversight.
In addition to standard accounting duties, the Assistant Accountant will:
- Manage key administrative workflows.
- Guide junior staff members.
- Serve as the primary and confident point of contact during inspections or official visits by government authorities.
- Liaise professionally with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Labour Office and other government entities.
Key responsibilities
The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the Finance Manager and Director in maintaining accurate and up-to-date daily financial accounts and transaction records.
- Prepare, verify and reconcile financial documents, invoices and expense reports related to pharmaceutical operations.
- Ensure general ledgers, books and tracking tools are maintained in full compliance with local accounting principles.
- Act as the frontline company representative during official, unannounced or scheduled audits and visits from regulatory bodies.
- Respond confidently and professionally to inquiries from the Tanzania Revenue Authority, the Labour Office and other government entities.
- Ensure all statutory files, tax documents and employment compliance records are properly organized and readily available for inspection.
Office administration and team guidance
The successful candidate will also:
- Perform daily administrative duties to ensure smooth office and facility operations.
- Provide direct oversight and guidance to selected staff members.
- Interpret, explain and enforce company rules, policies and internal regulations to maintain workplace alignment.
Requirements and qualifications
Applicants must have:
- A degree in Accounting or a relevant field.
- Four to five years of professional experience within the pharmaceutical industry. This requirement is mandatory.
- Proven ability to work completely independently and efficiently without constant direct supervision.
- Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- The professional confidence required to handle government inspectors and labour officials.
- Practical knowledge of TRA tax processes, Tanzanian labour regulations and statutory compliance frameworks, including NSSF mechanisms.
