Background

The Accountant is responsible for managing all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets. This role ensures the company's financial health by maintaining accurate books, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with tax laws.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Record Keeping:

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all daily transactions (sales, purchases, expenses) are accurately recorded.
  • Reconcile bank statements and cash accounts on a regular basis.

Payables & Receivables:

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable, including issuing invoices to clients and following up on outstanding payments.
  • Manage payroll processing and ensure staff salaries are paid accurately and on time.

Cash Management:

  • Oversee daily cash flow (float, petty cash, and daily sales collections).
  • Reconcile cashier collections (if applicable) and ensure all revenue is accounted for.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet).
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax) and prepare returns for timely filing.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.

Budgeting:

  • Assist management in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and report variances.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Certification:

  • Must be registered with NBAA (National Board of Accountants and Auditors) – at least CPA/ACCA Level 2 or above.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a retail, hospitality, or FMCG environment.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
