Working Period and Remuneration:
TFNC anticipates that the approximate level of effort will be between 25-40 work days per enumerator between January and February 2022. An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered to successful candidates as per government of Tanzania salary scales.

Institute overview:
Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) is a Government institution under the Ministry of Health (MoH) established by the Act of Parliament CAP 109. The Centre is involved in spearheading national responses to nutrition and to ensure a coordinated, effective and efficient approach to tackling all forms of malnutrition. It provides strategic leadership to all sectors; strengthens multi-sector coordination and collaboration; advocates for resources for nutrition; promotes harmonization and alignment of sector financing; provides guidance, training and technical support to implementing agencies and monitors and evaluates nutrition programming progress.

Job Purpose:
TFNC under financial support from USAID Advancing Nutrition is looking for qualified and experienced data collectors to perform data collection for a study titled: Food taboos and preferences among women of reproductive age in mainland Tanzania. This is a cross-sectional community based qualitative study that will explore food taboos and preferences among non-pregnant, non-lactating women aged 15-49 years in selected regions of mainland Tanzania.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The data collectors will be responsible for collecting qualitative data using a voice recorder and writing summaries on note books and type them. The data collectors will report to the Study coordinator on a daily basis. Overall they will be responsible to:-
• Undergo training on how to carry out this study
• Contact individuals to be interviewed at home or field location.
• Adhere to standards for ethical research conduct and the protection of human subjects, including informed consent and maintenance of confidentiality
• Explain survey objectives and procedures to interviewees.
• Carry out in-depth interviews, focus group discussions or key informant interviews per study protocol.
• Identify and report challenges in obtaining valid data.
• Review interviews and data collection guides and propose improvements.
• Meet with supervisor daily to submit collected data and discuss progress.
• Attend regular debrief meetings as scheduled by the supervisor.
• Spend the entire contract period collecting data and preparing summary of findings.
• Interact with local officials and rural residents. They will treat all persons contacted under this study with utmost respect.
• Have the highest level of honesty and integrity;
• Perform any other tasks as given by the supervisor.

Key Relationships:
• Report to Principle Investigator (PI) and Study Coordinator.
• Collaborate with respective Regional Secretariat, District CHMTs and Village and community leaders.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
• We are searching for HIGHLY QUALIFIED and EXPERIENCED individuals who are ready to work with us on this research. Applicants should hold the following qualifications:
• Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, sociology, social work or related fields. Master’s Degree in social sciences is added advantage.
• 1-year experience in data management and qualitative data collection, using tape recorder.
• Excellent command of English and Kiswahili.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment, interact with people of different cultural and social background and must be able to work with minimum supervision.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
• Previous experience in moderating and organizing focus group discussions and in-depth and key informant interviews.
• Should undergo a COVID test with own cost before the training begins. Only persons with a negative result should be selected to attend training.
