Role Overview
The Solution Architect is tasked with designing and leading the implementation of solutions and capability architectures for specific business capabilities or user journeys, aligning with the overall digital vision and target architecture. This role involves conducting technical analysis and creating holistic solution designs for future capabilities and features, incorporating external dependencies, cross-domain APIs, and technical enablers or stories. The Solution Architect reviews the target architecture vision and roadmap, evaluates and prioritizes roadmap items, and translates them into designs and non-functional requirements. Additionally, this role supports engineering teams to ensure technical story development adheres to defined architecture paradigms, principles, and patterns.
Key Accountabilities and Decision Ownership
- Translate the overall digital vision and target architecture into solution designs and change requirements.
- Design end-to-end solutions, including cross-domain integration and APIs.
- Define non-functional, operational, and quality requirements for solutions.
- Create technical stories to enable business capabilities, promoting reuse of existing components and accepting technical features following demonstrations.
- Collaborate with teams to plan the release of technical stories.
- Provide guidance to delivery teams to ensure alignment with architectural standards.
- Ensure solution compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage technical debt and technology obsolescence at the solution level.
- Advocate for the adoption of new technologies within solutions.
Core Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
- Expertise in solution architecture and design.
- Proficiency in feasibility analysis.
- Experience in business capability and customer journey architecture governance within agile software delivery.
- Knowledge of technical enablers, integration APIs, and detailed technical and operational story design.
- Competence in infrastructure design.
- Familiarity with estimation techniques for scaled agile environments.
- Skills in technology innovation, including scouting, screening, and evaluation.
- Understanding of technology cost of ownership and application portfolio management.
- Experience with web-scale cloud-native architectures, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Ability to design web-scale architectures and systems of innovation and engagement.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and automation tools.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data technologies and architectures.
- Capability to manage technical debt.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of creativity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and business audiences.
- Exceptional relationship-building, teamwork, and collaboration skills to support multiple DevOps teams.
- Understanding of the current telecommunications and digital services market, as well as emerging business and technology trends.
- Ability to quickly comprehend new technologies with intellectual curiosity and integrity.
- Vendor- and technology-neutral approach, driven by long-term business outcomes.
- Sound business understanding and market awareness.
- Ability to balance long-term (“big picture”) and short-term perspectives to achieve business outcomes.
- Strong time-management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities.
Must-Have Technical/Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Analysis, or a related field.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as business, information, solution, or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management, or operations in a multitier environment.
- Extensive exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
- Significant experience in business capability modeling and technical and solution architecture development in a digital business context.
- Experience with agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, XP, TDD, and BDD.
- Professional experience and knowledge of the digital and telecommunications industries are strongly preferred.
