Job Purpose:

To lead the workshop team in Mbeya in performing efficient maintenance, repair, and fabrication services for plant machinery, equipment, and vehicles to minimize downtime and support production goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, assign, and supervise daily workshop activities (mechanical, fabrication, welding).
  • Oversee the repair, overhaul, and preventive maintenance of production machines and mobile equipment.
  • Manage workshop inventory of tools, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Ensure jobs are completed on time, to quality standards, and within budget.
  • Enforce strict adherence to workshop safety rules and procedures (LOTO, PPE).
  • Train and mentor workshop technicians and apprentices.
  • Prepare work schedules, maintenance reports, and downtime analysis.
  • Liaise with production and procurement departments to plan and prioritize work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of workshop experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong practical skills in machining, welding, fitting, and assembly.

  • Planning, scheduling, and organizational abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
