Job Title: Truck Repair Technician

Job Purpose
The Truck Repair Technician diagnoses, inspects, services, and repairs company trucks and heavy-duty logistics vehicles. Operating out of the Kariakoo location, this position executes preventive maintenance routines, resolves electrical and hydraulic faults, maintains workshop safety, and keeps the fleet in peak roadworthy condition.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Diagnostics & Mechanical Maintenance:
- Perform systematic inspections, diagnostic evaluations, and troubleshooting on heavy-duty diesel trucks.
- Repair and overhaul critical truck assemblies including engines, transmission systems, air brakes, suspensions, and hydraulic/steering setups.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic scanners and workshop tools to locate electrical, mechanical, and systemic faults.
Preventive Care & Fleet Reliability:
- Execute scheduled preventive servicing routines to minimize vehicle breakdowns and road hazards.
- Work closely with company drivers to evaluate reported operational issues and conduct post-repair test runs.
- Ensure all company trucks strictly adhere to national road safety standards and technical regulations.
Documentation & Workshop Management:
- Maintain precise records of all vehicle repairs, routine servicing logs, replacement parts, and maintenance costs.
- Report major mechanical failures or structural damage to management with cost-effective repair or replacement recommendations.
- Keep workshop machinery, hand tools, and work bays clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background:
- Mandatory: Degree or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Work Experience & Technical Competencies:
- Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in truck repair, heavy-duty diesel engine maintenance, or fleet workshop operations.
- In-depth knowledge of heavy-vehicle mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic sub-systems.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel engines.
Personal Attributes & Physical Requirements:
- Strong technical problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic capabilities.
- Physically fit and capable of performing heavy workshop duties in a high-tempo environment.
- High integrity, discipline, team collaboration skills, and strict adherence to industrial safety standards.
