OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Manage all plant production activities under the management of the Manager, Processing. Manage all plant production activities safely and cost effectively in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. Manage plant production crew members and contractors.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Track Critical Control Verifications, leadership site walkabouts, and frontline participation in site safety programs, and proactively manage and reduce hazards.
  • Monitor process safety incident rates, insurance audit readiness scores, fatal risk control overrides, injury and illness frequency, compliance violations, investigation cycle times, and close-out of corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory inspections, health and safety policies, and national and international standards and regulations including NEMC, ISO14001, ISO45001, IMIU, OSHAS and ICMI.
  • Drive proactive risk management through Behaviour-Based Safety observations, near-miss reporting, pre-task risk assessments, safety interventions, PTOs and inspections.
  • Monitor housekeeping audit scores across crushing, milling, treatment, laydown and waste sorting yard facilities and maintain environmental regulatory alignment.
  • Develop and execute annual production plans and budgets aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Deliver plant performance in line with or exceeding budget targets for throughput, recovery and cost.
  • Define and implement operating strategies to transition plant performance to future production states.
  • Oversee metallurgical data integrity, analysis and reporting to support decision-making.
  • Ensure robust metallurgical accounting systems and process discipline.
  • Plan and execute production activities to produce gold in line with budget and future ore characteristic changes.
  • Model and calculate plant runtime and throughput capacities to build accurate monthly operational plans and Life of Mine production budgets.
  • Schedule mill liner relining, screen and cyclone operational maintenance to maximize runtime and meet budgeted gold production targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement and debottlenecking by updating standard operating procedures and managing casual labour under the contractor framework to execute shutdowns.
  • Enforce safe and responsible equipment operation across crushing, milling and treatment circuits while maintaining control over routine operational maintenance and reagent mixing.
  • Stabilize automation and control systems to maintain optimum operating conditions.
  • Manage Life of Mine budgets, Stay-in-Business capital, labour complements and reagent footprint variances to reduce operating costs.
  • Formulate, manage and track section operational expenditure and enforce cost control measures to prevent budget overruns.
  • Create cost awareness and drive continuous cost reduction in each operational section.
  • Partner with technical and capital project teams to identify, prioritise and execute strategic plant improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in project governance frameworks including design reviews, construction and execution oversight, and final operational sign-off.
  • Ensure the safe and effective integration of new processing technologies and automated systems into existing plant operations.
  • Develop and implement Individual Development Plans for direct reports to map career paths and build competencies.
  • Develop and implement Training Needs Analysis for production operations employees.
  • Partner with the Plant Training Officer to assess skill gaps and develop the section training matrix.
  • Facilitate crew training to ensure compliance with safe operating standards and the plant training matrix.
  • Conduct timely performance appraisals in line with the company program.
  • Drive the continuous improvement program within the production function by identifying, prioritising and executing improvement ideas in line with the company business improvement program.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

BSc in Engineering in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years in gold plant operations involving crushing, milling, thickening, leaching, elution plants, TSF and compressors.
  • Experience in analysis and management of operational budgets, cost control and financial forecasting.
  • Preparation of plant runtime and plant throughput for monthly plans and Life of Mine budgeting.
  • Basic understanding of project management is required.
