A dynamic and growing high end restaurant and lounge is looking for The Sound Engineer – In Charge of Sound & Screens who will be responsible for the overall management, operation,  maintenance and technical performance of the venue’s sound, audio-visual, display and  screen systems are properly installed, configured, operated and maintained to deliver high quality audio and visual experiences for customers, performers, events and management  activities. The Sound Engineer is also responsible for ensuring that all technical equipment is  used safely, efficiently and professionally, while minimizing technical failures, equipment  damage and operational interruptions. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Sound System Management 

  • Take overall responsibility for the operation and performance of all sound systems within the  venue. 
  • Set up, operate and monitor:Mixing consoles;Amplifiers,Speakers and subwoofers,  Microphones,Wireless microphone systems, DJ equipment,Audio  processors,Equalizers,Audiointerfaces,Signal distribution,equipment, and Other  related audio equipment. 
  • Conduct sound checks before opening, performances, live entertainment, events and  special functions. 
  • Ensure appropriate sound levels are maintained throughout operating hours.
  • Adjust sound levels, equalization, microphone levels, monitors and other audio  settings according to the requirements of the event or performance. 
  • Ensure clear and balanced sound for customers, performers, DJs, MCs, management  and other users. 
  • Identify and resolve sound issues such as distortion, feedback, noise, poor signal  quality, microphone failure and uneven sound distribution. 
  • Ensure that the sound system is operated within appropriate technical limits to  prevent equipment damage. 
  • Coordinate with DJs, musicians, performers, MCs and event organizers regarding their  technical sound requirements. 
  • Maintain appropriate audio presets and configurations for recurring events and  entertainment programs. 

Screens and Visual Equipment Management  

  • Take overall responsibility for the operation and functionality of all screens and visual display  systems.
  • Operate and monitor, LED screens, Television screens, Projectors, Digital displays, Video  processors, Media players HDMI/DisplayPort and other video connections, Content  distribution systems, and Other audiovisual equipment. 
  • Ensure all screens are functioning correctly before the venue opens. 
  • Ensure that promotional materials, advertisements, event visuals, entertainment  content and other approved content are displayed correctly. 
  • Coordinate with management and marketing teams regarding content to be displayed  on screens. 
  • Check screen brightness, resolution, orientation, image quality and signal  transmission. 
  • Troubleshoot issues relating to blank screens, poor picture quality, signal loss,  connectivity problems and incorrect display settings. 
  • Ensure that screen content is appropriate, approved and consistent with management  instructions. 
  • Maintain proper scheduling and switching of screen content where applicable.

Event and Entertainment Technical Support 

  • Provide technical sound and visual support for live performances, DJs, private events,  corporate functions, meetings and other activities. 
  • Attend event planning meetings where technical input is required. 
  • Assess technical requirements before each major event. 
  • Prepare all required equipment in advance of events. 
  • Conduct technical rehearsals and sound checks where necessary. 
  • Coordinate with performers and external production teams regarding technical  requirements. 
  • Ensure microphones, speakers, monitors, screens, projectors and other equipment  are available and functional before events begin. 
  • Remain available during major events to immediately respond to technical problems. • Coordinate technical changeovers between DJs, bands, performers, MCs and other  entertainment providers. 
  • Ensure that technical operations do not unnecessarily interrupt the customer  experience. 

Equipment Maintenance 

  • Conduct routine inspection of all sound and screen equipment. 
  • Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for AV equipment. • Identify equipment requiring repair, replacement or servicing. 
  • Report defective equipment to management immediately. 
  • Coordinate with approved external technicians and suppliers for specialized repairs. • Keep equipment clean, properly stored and protected from damage. 
  • Ensure cables, connectors and accessories are properly labelled and stored. • Monitor equipment performance and identify potential failures before they affect  operations. 
  • Maintain an inventory of all sound, screen and AV equipment. 
  • Ensure equipment is handled only by authorized and properly trained personnel.

Technical Troubleshooting 

  • Respond promptly to sound screen technical failures and Minimize downtime caused  by technical failures 
  • Diagnose technical problems systematically and implement appropriate solutions. • Maintain basic troubleshooting procedures for common technical faults. 
  • Ensure backup solutions are available for critical equipment where practical. • Escalate major technical problems to management and approved service providers. • Record recurring technical problems and recommend permanent solutions. • Minimize downtime caused by technical failures. 

Health, Safety and Compliance 

  • Follow all applicable workplace health and safety requirements and emergency  procedures are followed in the event of electrical or technical incidents. 
  • Ensure all sound and AV equipment is operated safely. 
  • Ensure electrical connections, cables and power distribution systems are properly  managed and Maintain safe working practices when installing, moving or dismantling  technical equipment 
  • Prevent loose cables and other technical installations from creating hazards to  employees, performers or customers. 
  • Ensure equipment is not overloaded or operated beyond its recommended capacity. • Immediately report electrical, structural or equipment-related hazards.. 

Reporting and Documentation 

  • Prepare regular reports on the condition and performance of sound and screen  equipment. 
  • Maintain records of technical faults and repairs. 
  • Maintain preventive maintenance records. 
  • Report equipment losses or damages and major technical incidents to management • Submit recommendations for equipment replacement or upgrades. 
  • Maintain records of equipment received, issued, transferred or returned. 
  • Provide technical reports following major events where necessary. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Education: Diploma or Degree in Sound Engineering, Audio Engineering, Audio-Visual  Technology,Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Media Technology or a related field. Relevant technical certification will be an added advantage. 

Experience:Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in sound engineering, live  entertainment, Hospitality,Lounge, Night Clubs, Events, broadcasting or AV operations. Experience operating professional sound systems in a restaurant, lounge, nightclub, hotel,  event venue or entertainment environment is highly preferred. 

 

Experience managing screens, LED displays, projectors and other AV systems is an added  advantage.
