Job Description:

Department: Workshop

Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining tractors and heavy machinery used across the agribusiness estate. The role will ensure equipment reliability, minimize operational downtime, and provide technical guidance to junior mechanics and workshop support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, transmission, and engine faults on tractors and heavy machinery.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, servicing, inspections, and major equipment repairs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and ensure timely restoration to operational condition.
  • Inspect critical components and recommend repairs or replacement of worn parts.
  • Guide and support junior mechanics and workshop helpers during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing, spare parts used, and equipment condition.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow workshop safety procedures and maintain high standards of workmanship.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance and repair of tractors, heavy machinery, or agricultural equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, braking systems, and mechanical components.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical faults.
  • Practical experience with tractors and heavy equipment used in agriculture, construction, or earthmoving operations.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, maintenance schedules, and equipment specifications.
  • Good leadership, problem-solving, and technical mentoring skills.
  • Strong commitment to workshop safety and preventive maintenance practices.
