Job Summary:

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Project Intern to join our Youth Agroforestry Champions Initiative. This is a unique, hands-on opportunity to contribute to climate action and sustainable agriculture in the Masasi District. The intern will play a critical role in supporting local youth groups, establishing community tree nurseries, and delivering climate-smart agricultural training. Key Responsibilities:

1. Support Youth Agroforestry Groups:

• Act as a liaison and field mentor for youth groups engaged in agroforestry activities.
• Provide technical guidance and motivation to group members on sustainable land management.
• Assist in organizing group meetings and tracking their progress against project milestones.
• Document success stories and challenges faced by the groups.

2. Community Tree Nurseries (Primary Focus):

• Assist in the establishment, management, and maintenance of 5 community tree nurseries.
• Oversee the production and care of over 50,000 tree seedlings.
• Train community members and youth groups on proper nursery techniques, including seed selection, sowing, watering, pest control, and transplanting.
• Monitor seedling growth and ensure high survival rates.

3. Climate-Smart Agriculture Training:

• Support the delivery of training sessions to local farmers and youth on climate-smart agricultural practices (e.g., intercropping, water conservation, soil health).
• Help prepare training materials and facilitate practical demonstrations.
• Educate beneficiaries on the linkages between agroforestry, food security, and climate resilience.
• Gather feedback from participants to improve training effectiveness.

4. Monitoring & Reporting:

• Assist with data collection, field monitoring, and reporting to track project progress.
• Maintain accurate records of nursery activities, training attendance, and youth group engagement.
• Contribute to monthly and final project reports.

Qualifications & Skills:

• A recent graduate or current student in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, or a related field.
• A strong passion for environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and community development.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with youth and rural communities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote/rural field environment.
• Willingness to stay in Masasi District for the full 5-month duration.
• Proficiency in Swahili and English (written and spoken) is highly preferred.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office) for data entry and reporting.
