Job Purpose
The key purpose of this role is to safely operate and maintain defined packaging equipment, especially in the filling and labelling process areas, which have a significant business impact on costs and consumer quality.
The Process Artisan will provide engineering support to the maintenance function by repairing, replacing, or manufacturing parts for plant machinery and equipment used in manufacturing.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Process Operation and Performance
- Operate the process area according to work instructions and adhere to usage standards.
- Constantly review process performance against targets.
- Complete all short interval control documentation.
- Respond rapidly to upstream or downstream triggers that result in stoppages.
- Carry out autonomous operations as defined for the process areas.
- Identify defective plant equipment and report it to the Team Leader to assist with resolution.
Quality Control and Analysis
- Carry out the required quality checks as described in the quality control and analysis work practice.
- Conduct the required quality checks and analyses, then record the results on the appropriate information system.
- Follow the list of quality checks contained in the work instructions.
- React to quality results using the supplied VPO tools.
Waste Management and Continuous Improvement
- Record waste on the appropriate documentation or information systems.
- Review waste trends to identify problems or opportunities in a timely manner.
- Use appropriate problem-solving approaches as detailed in the problem-solving work practice.
- Where problems occur, use VPO problem-solving tools to resolve and record the issues.
- Use action logs to record issues, problems, and improvement opportunities.
Maintenance Support
- Take part in maintenance planning meetings by contributing suggestions and clarifying required work.
- Assist the Machine Specialist in executing running repairs during shifts.
- Support fellow team members in executing tasks during planned maintenance windows.
- Participate in maintenance postmortems to provide feedback on problems, opportunities, and learnings from maintenance activities.
- Provide engineering support through repairing, replacing, or manufacturing parts for plant machines and equipment.
Safety and Housekeeping
- Perform housekeeping tasks.
- Apply 5S principles.
- Follow safe work practices at all times.
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices.
Teamwork and Communication
- Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks.
- Actively participate in shift meetings by asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions.
- Fully understand the team Dream and contribute toward achieving it.
- Use relevant communication media, such as the shift logbook, to stay informed and inform others of issues.
- Complete the required handover to incoming shift team members.
- Ensure issues relating to plant performance, quality, and maintenance are clearly communicated during handover.
Minimum Requirements
- Technical Qualification, National Diploma, or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Electrical aptitude.
- Machine-specific experience.
- 9 months of on-the-job training plus Manufacturer Basic Maintenance Training.
- SKAP completed.
- 1–2 years of experience as an Artisan.
