Portanchor Solutions Limited is a Dar es Salaam-based clearing and forwarding company that specializes in customs clearance, cargo documentation, and transit shipping. They work closely with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and port authorities to facilitate imports and exports.
Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Port / ICD Operations Officer to oversee and coordinate cargo clearance activities at the Port, ICDs, Container Freight Stations (CFS), and customs examination areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth cargo release, container movement, inspections, document processing, and timely delivery of shipments.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up cargo clearance processes at the Port, ICDs, CFSs, and customs offices.
- Coordinate container release, cargo examinations, and customs inspections.
- Collect and process Delivery Orders (DO), release documents, gate passes, and other operational documents.
- Liaise with shipping lines, ICD operators, customs officers, TPA, TRA, TBS, FCC, and other relevant authorities.
- Monitor container status, cargo availability, and release progress.
- Coordinate loading, offloading, and dispatch of cargo to customers’ premises.
- Follow up container returns and ensure timely return to avoid detention charges.
- Collect interchange reports and container movement records.
- Resolve operational issues affecting cargo release and delivery.
- Provide daily updates on shipment status to the Operations Manager.
- Ensure all operational activities comply with company procedures and customs regulations.
- Maintain proper records of all shipments handled.
Requirements
- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Logistics, Shipping, Supply Chain, Customs Administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience in port operations, ICD operations, freight forwarding, transport coordination, or customs clearance is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Dar es Salaam Port operations and ICD procedures.
- Familiarity with customs clearance processes and shipping documentation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Honest, responsible, and highly organized.
- Proficient in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, email, etc.).
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
- Possession of a valid driving license is an added advantage.
Preferred Qualities
- Strong follow-up skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with port and ICD stakeholders.
- Willingness to spend significant time in the field at ports, ICDs, and examination yards.
- Flexible working hours when operational demands require.
- Salary: Negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
