Job Summary:
The Medical Attendant is a non-clinical support role responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role provides essential portering services, manages linen and waste, and assists clinical staff with routine tasks, allowing nurses to focus on medical care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Housekeeping: Maintain high standards of cleanliness in wards, waiting areas, and patient rooms. Sweep, mop, dust, and sanitize surfaces per infection control guidelines.
- Waste Management: Dispose of general and medical (infectious) waste in accordance with facility safety protocols.
- Linen Management: Collect, change, and distribute clean bed linens, towels, and patient gowns. Remove and count soiled linen for laundry.
- Portering: Transport patients to and from operating theaters, X-ray, laboratories, and other departments via wheelchairs or stretchers.
- Equipment Handling: Safely move and position medical equipment (e.g., oxygen cylinders, portable monitors) as directed by nurses.
- Supply Distribution: Replenish stocks in patient rooms (e.g., soap, tissues, drinking water) and utility rooms.
- Patient Assistance: Assist clinical staff in moving patients for physical examinations or repositioning to prevent pressure ulcers (under supervision).
- Environmental Checks: Check for and report any safety hazards, faulty equipment, or structural issues within the ward.
- Administrative Support: Assist in the mortuary or outpatient registration queues as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Minimum of O-Level / High School Diploma (specify local equivalent).
- Experience: Previous experience in cleaning, housekeeping, or hospital portering is an advantage but not required (on-the-job training provided).
- Health: Must be physically fit and pass a medical examination (including proof of Hepatitis B vaccination/TB screening).
Key Competencies/Skills:
- Physical fitness and strength (able to lift/move patients and heavy equipment).
- Attention to detail (hygiene standards).
- Basic communication skills (ability to follow instructions).
- Punctuality and professionalism.
- Knowledge of basic infection prevention practices.
