Background

Barrick is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Fitter to join its Africa Middle East operations team in Tarime. The company is looking for a skilled and committed professional who can contribute to a world-class mining operation while upholding Barrick’s core values of integrity, accountability, safety, sustainability, teamwork, and operational excellence. The role focuses on maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of gold plant mechanical equipment to ensure efficient and safe plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with Barrick health, safety, environmental, and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Reporting all health, safety, and environmental incidents through the required reporting systems
  • Conducting daily inspections, maintenance, and execution of plant equipment maintenance activities
  • Completing maintenance work according to approved procedures and work requirements
  • Maintaining and storing mechanical tools and equipment according to safety standards and OEM procedures
  • Troubleshooting process plant equipment problems and resolving engineering issues
  • Selecting and replacing parts and components according to specifications and work plans
  • Inspecting materials and components to ensure compliance with job specifications
  • Planning and prioritizing maintenance work while maintaining plant security and operational capacity
  • Conducting weekly reviews comparing planned versus completed maintenance work
  • Ensuring accurate shift handovers and completion of required inspection logbooks
  • Demonstrating proper use, inspection, and maintenance of power tools and hand tools
  • Responding promptly to equipment breakdowns based on operational priorities
  • Ensuring compliance with preventive maintenance schedules
  • Following safe work procedures including isolation, lockout, confined space entry, lifting, rigging, and working at heights

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution
  • Technical or vocational training such as FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test, apprenticeship training, or equivalent
  • Mechanical Trade Certification
  • Minimum of three years post-trade test experience
  • At least three years of artisan experience in mechanical fitting involving gold plant equipment
  • Competence in rebuilding and servicing gold plant equipment
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manuals
  • Ability to conduct hazard identification and risk assessments
  • Valid manual light vehicle driving license
  • Strong technical planning and maintenance experience
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • High professional standards, initiative, adaptability, and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Strong teamwork, motivation, and performance-oriented attitude
