Context
Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) is a fully integrated beverage business in Diageo Africa (supply and demand for beer and spirits) It is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL), the largest business unit in Diageo Africa and the second largest listed company on the NSE in Kenya. SBL operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the second largest beer company.
SBL was incorporated in 1988 as Associated Breweries Limited and changed its name to Serengeti Breweries Limited in 2002 and commenced commercial operations in 1996 with one brewery in Dar es Salaam. 51% of the company was acquired by EABL in October 2010 and has three breweries located in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi.
SBL flagship brand is Serengeti Premium Lager. Other brands in the portfolio include Guinness and Pilsner. SBL is also the distributor of several global Diageo international renowned spirits brands such as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Bailey’s and Captain Morgan.
Scope
Ensure timely availability and accurate management of materials for brewing and packaging processes. Manage material movements in SAP, conduct stock reconciliations, and provide production reports to support smooth operations and planning.
Purpose of Role
- Liaise with stores department on site to manage all materials required in the brewing process to ensure availability as per the production plans to enable process continuity
- Manage all material movements in SAP – work – in progress (WIP) to avail finished goods in time for sales and being able to reconcile as per Approved BOM.
- Monitor and generate reports relating to production performance against agreed key performance indicators (KPIs)
Dimensions:
Scope: Manages inventory of raw materials and brewing supplies for the brewing department
Stakeholders: Coordinates with Procurement, Production, and Quality teams
Decision-Making: Responsible for accurate inventory record-keeping and timely material issuance within set guidelines
Leadership Responsibilities and Decision-Making Rights
- Ensures accurate and timely handling of brewing materials within assigned scope.
- Makes operational decisions related to material receipt, storage, and issuance according to procedures.
- Reports discrepancies or issues to supervisors and recommends improvements in material handling.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage SAP system as a production/accounting tool
- Liaise with business information systems to ensure system is delivering to the expectations
- Coordinate routine update of system with new items by liaising with users and Data maintenance
- Availability of WIP and finished goods at the right place/stage at the right time
- Ensure materials are timely and accurately posted into the system
- Coordinate with stores to ensure perpetual stocks are takes and entered the system
- Ensure that perpetual stock take of WIP and materials are taken, and reconciled production and material usage figures are entered into the system to reflect accurate activity costs weekly as the need arises by the supply Finance procedures
Qualifications and Experience Required
Qualifications
BSc in Food Science and Technology or any other Degree in the field of natural sciences studies.
IBD certification as added advantage
Experience
At least 2 years experience in active Brewing Practices in an established brewery.
- Manage SAP system as a production/accounting tool
- Liaise with business information systems to ensure system is delivering to the expectations
- Coordinate routine update of system with new items by liaising with users and Data maintenance
- Availability of WIP and finished goods at the right place/stage at the right time
