Make Pack – Packer Operator

JTI is seeking a Make Pack – Packer Operator to support cigarette packing operations within its manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and monitoring cigarette packing machines, ensuring production targets are achieved while maintaining product quality, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and continuous improvement standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate cigarette packing machines including GDX500, C800, BVF GDX2, C600, CT, C600 ASIB, and Marden Edwards Packers in accordance with approved operating procedures
- Follow OEM operating manuals, quality standards, and service operating guidelines during machine operation
- Achieve daily production targets and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Monitor and record machine downtime, stoppages, and operational losses
- Conduct effective shift handovers with outgoing and incoming operators
- Report production volumes, machine breakdowns, stoppages, major losses, root cause analyses, and corrective actions
- Provide accurate information regarding brand changes and material changes during production
- Complete all operational and production reports according to company procedures
- Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and lubrication activities on machinery
- Complete Standard CL Checklists (Run and Stop) and Standard CIL Checklists
- Participate in pre-shift and post-shift huddles and operational meetings
- Review and verify production orders before machine operation
- Confirm that supplied materials meet production requirements and specifications
- Complete brand changeover activities and packing checklists accurately
- Report material deviations and operational issues according to established procedures
- Conduct routine quality inspections during machine operation
- Follow approved quality plans and quality control procedures
- Perform product sampling activities, including pack, carton, and bundle inspections
- Identify, report, and address quality deviations promptly
- Maintain compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements and 5S3R workplace standards
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment during machine operation, maintenance, and cleaning activities
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment
- Relevant technical knowledge of machine operations and production processes
- Experience operating and troubleshooting industrial machinery
- Knowledge of production process monitoring and performance tracking
- Basic maintenance, inspection, and equipment care skills
- Understanding of quality assurance and quality control procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Basic knowledge of SAP systems
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Fluency in written and spoken Kiswahili
- Ability to operate production machinery efficiently and safely
- Knowledge of 5S3R workplace organization principles
- Understanding of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and practices
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
- Ability to work effectively under production targets and deadlines
- Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Good problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Discipline in following operational procedures and safety requirements
