Background
The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade established to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of legal metrology services in Tanzania. Operating under the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340, the Agency is responsible for ensuring fairness and accuracy in commercial measurements while protecting consumers and supporting fair trade practices across the country.
As part of its commitment to empowering young graduates through practical workplace exposure and professional skills development, WMA invites qualified, competent, and motivated Tanzanians to apply for One (1) volunteer position for the post of Legal Officer II. The programme offers an opportunity for graduates to gain practical legal experience in a government institution while supporting legal and regulatory functions within the Agency.
The Legal Officer II will support legal administration, records management, policy research, and preparation of legal documents related to the Agency’s operations. The role requires individuals with strong analytical skills, legal knowledge, integrity, and the ability to work professionally within a public service environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer the Legal Registry and maintain proper legal records and documentation
- Receive and prepare records of recovery and repayment cases for submission to the Court of Law
- Prepare monthly reports on legal matters handled by the Agency
- Receive, register, and maintain law periodicals, Government Gazettes, Government Notices, Bills, Acts of Parliament, law books, and journals
- Receive, register, and file police case files, letters, and other corresponding documents submitted to the Ministerial Advisory Board for legal advice
- Assist in conducting legal and policy research on matters related to the Agency
- Support legal compliance and administrative processes within the institution
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of Bachelor Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution
- Must have attended and passed Internship or Law School of Tanzania
- Good understanding of legal procedures, legal research, and policy analysis
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity
- Computer literacy and ability to manage legal documentation effectively
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment

Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, including postal address,address, and telephone numbers
Applicants must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificates
Applicants must have two guarantors who are Public Servants
Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority
Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the respective assigned area
Applicants must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA)
Applicants must not have been convicted by any Court of Law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community
Applicants must not have been employed by any Public Institution since graduation
Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statements of Results, and Form IV and Form VI Results Slips shall not be accepted
All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU.
