Key Purpose of the Role
The key purpose of this role is to provide laboratory support to the value chain by performing checks and analysis on BOP’s raw materials. This enables production teams to produce beer that conforms to AB InBev quality standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Quality Performance and Compliance
The Lab Technician will be responsible for supporting quality standards and ensuring compliance with AB InBev requirements. Key duties include:
- Meeting quality KPIs.
- Preventing quality non-compliances.
- Promoting quality awareness across the site.
- Contributing to quality performance at the site.
- Promoting a strong quality culture.
- Executing activities to ensure compliance with food safety and quality management systems.
- Ensuring timeous closure of non-conformances.
- Identifying nonconformances and adhering to out-of-control procedures.
Laboratory Analysis and Sampling
The successful candidate will conduct laboratory tests and analyses using approved procedures and standards. Responsibilities include:
- Preparing samples for analysis.
- Conducting analyses using fundamental laboratory techniques and practices.
- Performing in-process analyses during the production process.
- Ensuring sampling is carried out according to manualized methods.
- Identifying, verifying, and handling samples to retain integrity as per the manual.
- Preparing and dispatching samples, where necessary, according to manualized methods.
- Preparing relevant apparatus, equipment, and reagents as per manualized methods.
- Generating accurate results within specified timelines.
- Recording, evaluating, and reporting results timeously and according to standard manuals.
- Analyzing inter-laboratory ring test samples.
Equipment Operation, Maintenance, and Calibration
The Lab Technician will ensure laboratory equipment is properly operated, maintained, cleaned, and calibrated. Duties include:
- Operating all laboratory equipment.
- Maintaining and calibrating equipment.
- Maintaining, cleaning, and calibrating laboratory equipment as per schedules.
- Ensuring equipment is maintained and calibrated according to manualized methods.
- Adhering to equipment calibration frequencies.
- Ensuring calibration records are available and updated.
Safety, Housekeeping, and 5S Standards
The role requires strict adherence to safety, hygiene, and housekeeping requirements. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
- Adhering to PPE policy.
- Identifying and acting on unsafe conditions and work practices.
- Handling chemicals and reagents according to manualized procedures.
- Ensuring hazardous substances are stored, handled, and disposed of according to procedures.
- Conducting laboratory technical and GMP audits to improve 5S by maintaining housekeeping and safety standards.
VPO and Process Improvement
The candidate will support operational excellence through VPO practices and continuous improvement activities. Key duties include:
- Executing VPO activities in accordance with VPO work practices.
- Ensuring VPO compliance.
- Applying troubleshooting and root cause identification in support of problem solving.
Key Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have the following skills and competencies:
- Understanding of process control within a brewing or process environment.
- Assertive and analytical mindset.

- National Diploma in Chemistry, Food Science, Biotechnology, or equivalent qualification.
- 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in laboratory, brewing, or packaging operations.
- Experience in the food industry or laboratory environment.
