Irrigation Foreman – Mechanical is responsible to Supervise maintenance employees to achieve maximum availability and capacity of all irrigation pumps and equipment, Drive implementation of the “Illovo Way of Maintenance” (iAMP) to ensure Illovo is the best-in-class cane producer, Manage bulk water and in-field related infrastructure maintenance and capital budget, Ensure agriculture equipment realises agreed capacity and performance levels and teams address areas for improvement.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Together with the teams, achieve daily, weekly and monthly targets ensuring that tasks are prioritised and planned in a logical, systematic and cost effective way to optimise profitability
- Contribute to developing maintenance and capital budget with Agricultural Engineering Manager and finance business partner and manage costs effectively
- Monitor performance and support and advise teams in solving problems and/or taking corrective action
- Monitor standards for setting, operating and maintaining equipment and ensure instructions are adhered to
- Manage work quality to reduce rework and increase agricultural pump reliability
- Ensure maintenance and reliability of irrigation pumps and equipment the estate and ensure maintenance plans are aligned to achieve this
- Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices and conducting physical inspections
- Monitor and manage team and individual performance daily against minimum standards and targets.
- Ensure all relevant information and Work Orders are captured accurately within Maximo
- Provide teams with necessary tools and equipment to perform work effectively
- Ensure technical and maintenance reporting (from Maximo) is compliant with company policy and procedures
- Monitor performance and take corrective action where required
- Provide input into best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function through Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing
- Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues
- Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Mechanization or other related fields
- 3-5 years’ experience in Agricultural infrastructure and Irrigation systems maintenance
- A strong Irrigation maintenance background and an availability to work methodically and systematically in an agricultural environment
- Experience with departmental budgets
- Experience managing teams and/or contractors
- Experience organising and prioritising work
Terms of Service: The successful candidate will be engaged on a permanent contract.
