Background

The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UNDP Tanzania Human Resources Unit in delivering efficient, compliant, and client-oriented HR services to UNDP Tanzania. The role contributes to timely service delivery, improved documentation and audit readiness, enhanced staff experience, and effective implementation of talent management initiatives. This internship also offers a learning opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary UN environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Analyst and Talent Development Manager, the intern will:

1. Staff Engagement & HR Initiatives

Support organization of HR-related events, wellbeing initiatives, and activities promoting inclusive and gender-balanced workplace practices.

2. Recruitment and Selection Support

Assist in job postings, interview coordination, preparation of recruitment documentation, and tracking recruitment timelines to ensure compliance with UNDP policies and procedures.

3. HR Administration & Correspondence

Provide administrative support including drafting introduction letters, VISA related letters and other HR related correspondence.

4. Learning & Development Support

Assist in tracking implementation of Mandatory Learning and supporting performance management processes.

5. HR Data Management & Reporting

Update HR databases, compile staffing tables and assist in preparing or updating HR dashboards and management reports.

6. Onboarding, Induction and Separation Support

Coordinate onboarding and induction processes, prepare onboarding documentation, track contract timelines, and assist in separation procedures.

7. HR Records Management & Archiving

Assist in digitization of HR files to improve accessibility

8. Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor that contribute to the effective functioning of the organization.

Required Education, Skills and Language

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Major in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Sociology or any related field.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Interest in international development and alignment with UNDP’s mission
  • Adaptability, willingness to learn, and ability to take on challenges.
  • Attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Respect for UN values and the UNDP Statement of Purpose
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Language:

Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of other UN language desirable

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme.

Interns, whether engaged in-person or remotely, are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide self-certification of good health prior to starting the internship. Any cost arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.

Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed; Cost and arrangement for travel, visas, passports, accommodations and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern.

Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
