dnata Zanzibar is the primary provider of ground handling, cargo, and passenger services at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. We operate world-class lounge spaces in Terminal 3, offering passengers authentic Tanzanian hospitality delivered with dnata’s signature reliability. On the tarmac, our teams ensure safe and efficient aircraft operations, keeping flights moving seamlessly across the airport.
Responsibilities or duties
As a Head of Operations, you will oversee all aspects of dnata Airport Operations in Zanzibar, ensuring contractual obligations are delivered to customer airlines, freight forwarders, private entities, and government authorities while maintaining control over capital, income, and expense budgets. You will drive operational excellence, ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards, and lead the planning and successful delivery of strategic projects in line with established project management practices, standards, and processes, including representing the company in large-scale Group business initiatives to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and measurable business outcomes.
In this role, you will
- Oversee all airport operational departments (Customer Service, Aircraft Appearance, Turnaround, Baggage, Load Control and Cargo) to ensure safe, compliant and cost-effective flight handling.
- Develop and cascade the Airport Operations strategy, ensuring departmental plans are aligned and effectively implemented.
- Establish and oversee policies, systems, processes and controls to meet operational, regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Lead budget preparation and consolidation, monitoring financial performance to ensure cost control and profitability.
- Drive high service standards for airlines, cargo agents and private customers while ensuring efficient service delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments, airport authorities and external stakeholders to ensure coordination and responsiveness to operational changes.
- Lead and deliver assigned projects on time, within scope and budget, ensuring clear objectives, governance, realistic planning, adequate resourcing and alignment with agreed milestones and outcomes.
- Champion a strong safety culture by role modelling safe behaviours, ensuring compliance with safety policies and environmental standards, and upholding duty of care responsibilities including hazard and incident reporting.
- Lead, develop and motivate the management team through clear objective setting, performance management and continuous improvement initiatives to maximise departmental effectiveness.
Qualifications or requirements
To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years’ experience in airport operations with a ground handling agent including at least 8 years in a managerial role.
- Thorough knowledge of international airport operations, systems and procedures.
- Strong understanding of diverse project management methodologies and best practices
