Position Summary
Nyati Mineral Sands seeks to employ a Health, Safety and Environmental Officer, reporting to the Plant Manager. The purpose of this role is to ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards and practices for employees and visitors across Nyati Mineral Sands operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop OHSE policies and standards.
- Provide support and guidance to safety representatives.
- Conduct on-job coaching and training to employees on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices.
- Conduct and schedule daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings, pre-shift information, and toolbox meetings.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of establishing and implementing ISO 45001:2018 management systems.
- Participate in the review of safety Standard Operating Procedures.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits as required.
- Assist in incident and accident investigations.
- Monitor and follow up on incident investigation recommendations to ensure actions are completed and implemented.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Tanzanian Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Correct and report safety hazards when observed.
- Assist with the facilitation of formal risk assessments.
- Understand related department activities and manage their impact on the safety program.
- Conduct Environmental Improvement Programmes by monitoring surface and groundwater management.
- Ensure environmental compliance is achieved based on legal and other obligations as measured during annual audits.
- Formulate and implement an environmental management plan.
- Develop technical environmental improvement programmes to assist mine site environment management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Health and Safety Management, or equivalent from a Tanzanian or internationally recognized institution.
- ISO 45001:2018 OHS Management System certification.
- Formal Training Qualification in Risk Management, Accident Investigations, and Occupational Health and Safety.
- Tanzania OSHA – NOSCH I & II.
Experience Requirements
- 3–4 years’ experience in safety practice in a mineral processing plant.
Skills and Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of Legislative Requirements within Mining – OSHA, Mining Act, Explosives Act, Mines Health & Safety Act, Mining Regulations, and Environment Act.
- Hazard identification and Risk assessment.
- Incident and Accident investigating.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to speak and write good English and Kiswahili is required.
- A valid Tanzania Driving License.
