The Graduate Mining Engineer will assist the Senior Mining Engineer and Site Management with technical mining issues on site and/or within the department, interpret and analyze mining physicals and site costs, and integrate with the client’s technical services department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions, including the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of hazardous situations that cannot be corrected independently, making necessary changes to eliminate or control hazards, and immediately reporting any accident or injury arising during work.
- Complies with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations.
- Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
- Performs pre-start checks.
- Ensures mining physicals are achieved as per contract/client schedules.
- Develops an intimate understanding of the site contract, variations, and management plans, ensuring AUMS compliance with these requirements.
- Ensures client requirements are met contractually and maintains a favorable relationship with the client.
- Uses analysis and implementation of cost reduction initiatives.
- Monitors production.
- Prepares monthly performance reports.
- Manages Quality Assurance Programmes.
- Prepares budgets.
- Assists with the preparation of monthly claims and interfaces with the client.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.
- A demonstrated passion for safety and a proactive attitude toward ensuring safety is prioritized for all employees at all times.
- Understanding of equipment and human resource capability and productivities.
- Ability to work independently and fully capable of applying established standards.
Desirable Requirements
- Required to complete the AUMS Geofields graduate program, consisting of a minimum of 2 years in underground operational roles.
- Demonstrated experience in an assistant management role in a high-productivity underground contracting environment with world-class productivities (250 meters per month per jumbo, 50,000 ore tonnes per month).
- In-depth knowledge of MinRep, Deswick, and Surpac, with the ability to design and implement relevant templates for reporting and recording.
- Ability to manage the mining contract and control mining costs.
- Ability to communicate and liaise with employees and client site management.
- Ability to accurately prepare monthly mining progress claims and present them on time to the client.
- Ability to schedule labor.
- Ability to assess mining working conditions and environments.
- Understanding of the mine reporting system.
- Ability to train and mentor graduate and vocational engineers.
Highly Desirable Requirements
- Valid Tanzanian Driver’s Licence.
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
