Objective of the role
The Graduate Geologist 2 – Mine Geology will support open-pit mine geology production by understanding deposit geology and the controls on mineralization. The role will help optimize mineable ore blocks and mining techniques while minimizing dilution and ore loss.
Role accountabilities
The successful candidate will:
- Work safely and identify hazards while supporting open-pit mine geology production activities.
- Assist in understanding deposit geology, orebody geometry, structural conditions, and controls on mineralization.
- Support pit mapping and the preparation of cross-sections.
- Maintain quality control for samples collected from faces, benches, and stockpiles.
- Apply blast movement monitoring and ensure accurate ore block demarcation.
- Record ore movements and ensure that materials are directed to the correct destinations.
- Communicate geological results to ore control, modelling, evaluation, and operations stakeholders.
- Maintain clear communication with run-of-mine (ROM) pad, truck, and excavator operators.
- Prepare and submit grade-control drilling reports.
- Prepare open-pit geological maps.
- Prepare and submit daily ore movement reports.
Role requirements
Education and qualifications
Candidates must have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- A valid Tanzanian driving licence, Class D or above.
Experience
At least two years of experience in an open-pit (OP) or underground (UG) mining environment.
Knowledge and skills
Candidates should possess:
- Geological mapping skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of ore control management.
- Reverse circulation (RC) drilling supervision skills.
