Position Description
The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Geologist to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
- Follow all documented health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment, with the goal of every person going home safe and healthy every day.
- Provide safety leadership to subordinates, contractors, and MRM business partners, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Supervise employees, mine contractor and business partners to maintain safety standards that exceed industry practice and any applicable legislative provisions.
Geological activities and Data Management
- Complete 3D interpretation of geological data, including sections, flitches, maps, solid modeling, and block modeling, and ensure outputs are distributed or shared to mine planning, resource, and operational teams.
- Ensure Ore polygon creation is done soon after Model update and communicate within the team while updating the dgd.
- Ensure that drill pads are well prepared, and drilling team are informed prior to commencement of the drilling.
- Conduct by flitch analysis of ORE and risk assessment, complete DIS prior to drilling and ensure information is shared.
- Ensure all potential areas of gold mineralization within the Open Pit are tested by grade control and proper sampling in a cost-effective manner.
- Collect and integrate lithological, structural, and geotechnical data into geological and block models.
- Ensure dilution is controlled by using OREPro system
- Be familiar with Ore Movement technology ( BMT/ OREPro)
- Ensure appropriate sample and assay quality control measures are implemented, monitored, and reported, including timely dispatch of samples to the laboratory following QA/QC protocols.
- Monitor and update production sites, OP stockpiles, and grades to support daily operations.
- Ensure Ore reconciliation by flitch is done to investigate and control dilution.
Planning, Reporting, and Performance Monitoring
- Participate actively in business planning and management as a member of the mine management team.
- Liaise with technical services teams, metallurgists, surveyors, geotechnical teams, and mine operations to achieve optimal production outcomes.
- Prepare and deliver timely and accurate geological, mining, and MRM reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports), including ore body dilution, stope performance, and other technical reports.
- Provide and ensure geological key inputs to optimize mining operations, including grade control drilling, ore drive development, dilution control, and gold recovery, are effectively applied to operational planning.
Team Leadership, Training, and Development
- Mentor, train, and supervise Geological Technicians, Assistants, and other staff in core logging, interpretation, grade control processes and other geological activities.
- Support professional development programs for mine technicians, and assistants.
- Promote continual improvement and delivery of results through effective supervision and guidance.
Operational Support and Accountability
- Oversee drilling activities, for OC grade control drilling, business partners (drilling contractors) performance, and budget control.
- SAFE self-driving manual-transmission light vehicles is a mandatory requirement for this role to complete production activities and ensure the success of business operations.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare and submit accurate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and end-of-month geological reports, including royalty reports.
- Provide regular updates on flitch performance, dilution, and geological risks to mining and management teams.
- Maintain timely delivery of all geological data, reports, and documentation
Qualification requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or related field required.
Experience and competencies needed.
- 2-years’ experience in mine and/or exploration geology
- Experience with Vulcan, Leapfrog, Micromine or other mining software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment and excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal. communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative on projects and work independently.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
- Demonstrated people leadership + management skills and training.
- Familiarity with and commitment to OH&S and Environmental Management best practice.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office software.ie Power point.
- Ability to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.
