Job Title: Fitter Assistant

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Fitter Supervisor

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Fitter Assistant to join and grow our team. To provide safe and effective support to Mechanical Fitters in the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and overhaul of mechanical equipment, ensuring plant equipment remains reliable, safe, and available for operation while complying with all site safety procedures and maintenance standards.

Key roles and responsibilities will be:

• Assist fitters during planned and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Prepare and arrange tools, equipment, spares, and materials required for maintenance work.
• Assist with dismantling, cleaning, inspection, repair, and assembly of mechanical equipment.
• Assist in installation and alignment of pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, mills, gearboxes, valves, and other plant equipment.
• Assist with replacement of bearings, seals, bolts, couplings, liners, belts, and other mechanical components.
• Support lubrication activities as instructed.
• Assist with measurements and basic equipment inspections.
• Handle and position mechanical components using approved lifting equipment and methods.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Keep the work area clean and free from hazards.
• Report defective equipment, unsafe conditions, and damaged tools to the Fitter or Supervisor.
• Follow work instructions, permits, isolation procedures, and risk assessments.
• Use required PPE at all times.
• Participate in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings, and safety observations.
• Assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records where required

The Fitter Assistant must:

• Comply with all site HSE rules and procedures.
• Never work on equipment without proper isolation and authorization.
• Follow LOTO (Lock-Out/Tag-Out) requirements.
• Use the correct tools and equipment for each task.
• Follow safe lifting and manual-handling practices.
• Maintain good housekeeping throughout the job.
• Immediately report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Never bypass machine guards or safety devices

Required Qualifications:

• Certificate/grade one or equivalent training in Mechanical Fitting, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance.
• Basic understanding of hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Previous experience in a mining or processing plant environment is an advantage.
