Job Summary:
The Excavator Operator will be responsible for safely operating excavators for earthmoving, excavation, drainage construction, land development, trenching, and other civil and agricultural activities across the estate. The role will ensure efficient excavation operations while protecting personnel, equipment, and surrounding infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators for digging, trenching, earthmoving, drainage works, land preparation, and related project activities.
- Excavate according to required depths, dimensions, slopes, and site instructions.
- Load excavated materials onto trucks and relocate soil or other materials as required.
- Carry out daily pre-start inspections and report defects or abnormal equipment conditions.
- Perform basic operator-level maintenance, including fluid, track, hydraulic, and lubrication checks.
- Coordinate with ground personnel, supervisors, truck drivers, and other equipment operators during excavation activities.
- Maintain safe operating distances from personnel, structures, pipelines, and other equipment.
- Maintain machine-hour records and report operational or mechanical issues promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certificate or recognized vocational/heavy-equipment operator training in Excavator Operations or a related field.
- Valid relevant machinery/operator licence or certification where applicable.
- Minimum 3 years of practical excavator operating experience, preferably in agriculture, construction, infrastructure, mining, or earthmoving projects.
- Proven ability to perform excavation, trenching, loading, and earthmoving activities safely and accurately.
- Basic knowledge of excavator hydraulic systems, tracks, attachments, and routine operator maintenance.
- Ability to follow excavation dimensions, site markings, and operating instructions.
- Strong safety awareness and good equipment-handling skills.
- Experience in drainage, irrigation, or agricultural land-development projects will be an added advantage.
