Background
The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade established to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of legal metrology services in Tanzania. Through the implementation of the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340, the Agency ensures fairness and accuracy in trade measurements while promoting consumer protection and supporting economic growth.
As part of its commitment to empowering graduates and providing practical workplace exposure, WMA invites applications from qualified, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanians to fill One (1) volunteer position for the post of Economist II. The programme is designed to equip graduates with practical experience in economic analysis, planning, research, and project coordination within a public institution environment.
The Economist II will support economic planning, research activities, statistical analysis, and resource mobilization functions within the Agency. The role requires individuals with analytical capabilities, research competence, and the ability to support strategic planning and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in the collection of various economic and statistical data
- Collect information and statistics for planning and priority setting purposes
- Prepare and distribute statistical and economic information reports
- Participate in drafting project requirements in collaboration with various stakeholders
- Participate in resource mobilization activities and development initiatives
- Participate in research teams and assist in preparing research reports
- Collect inputs and data for the review of the Agency’s strategic plan
- Follow up on the release of funds from different stakeholders and funding sources
- Support planning and monitoring activities within the institution
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors
Qualifications and Experience:
- Holder of Bachelor Degree in Economics, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Planning and Investment, Economic Planning, Project Planning and Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution
- Good analytical and research skills
- Ability to collect, interpret, and present statistical and economic data
- Knowledge of planning and project management principles
- Good communication and report writing skills
- Computer literacy and familiarity with statistical and office applications
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU
