Position Summary
The Driver is responsible for the efficient, timely, sustainable, and safe transportation of passengers, goods, and materials across the country. This role supports Compassionate Carbon Tanzania Ltd’s mission by addressing logistical requirements and ensuring the seamless operation of landscape restoration projects.
Essential Responsibilities
- Drive program vehicles to safely transport passengers and cargo to and from destinations.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations, and prioritize the safety of passengers, cargo, and vehicle.
- Ensure the vehicle is always clean and in good order and all documentation (e.g. insurance and road license) are up to date.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks to ensure safety and reliability, and ensure vehicle is maintained in good condition and undergoes regular servicing.
- Report any vehicle issues or maintenance needs promptly to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with loading and unloading materials as required.
- Keep accurate and timely records of trips, including mileage, destinations, passengers, fuel consumption, and any incidents.
- Coordinate with staff and stakeholders to plan and execute transportation needs efficiently and to ensure smooth logistical operations.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks to ensure safety and reliability.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education + Work Experience
- Secondary school (Ordinary or Advanced level) certificate or vocational school diploma.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- NIT Advanced Driving Certificate or VETA Advanced Driving Certificate
- Minimum of three years of professional driving experience.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian roads and traffic regulations.
- Experience in vehicle maintenance and safety inspections.
Skills + Abilities

- Excellent defensive driving skills with a strong understand of Tanzanian road and traffic regulations.
- Proficiency in vehicle maintenance and safety inspections.
- Skilled in record keeping, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English and Swahili.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with staff and stakeholders.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and extended or irregular work hours.
- Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles safely and effectively in extreme 4×4 conditions, including rugged, remote, and off-road environments.
Work Environment + Physical Requirements
- Working environment includes staying in remote areas especially in villages where the project is implemented.
- Must be able to drive for long periods on rough roads with poor terrain.
- Must be able to observe driving rules and regulations to avoid accidents and ensure safety of both passengers and vehicle itself.
- Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required.
- Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic business purposes. While performing the duties of this job in the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions.
