Position Summary
Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is looking for qualified and experienced Clinical Officer to join and collaborate within the existing clinical research platform of Chronic Diseases Clinic Ifakara (CDCI), Intermediate Care Unit at St. Francis Referral Hospital (IMC-SFRH), CARECHAIN-NCD and Heart and Lung Clinic to implement the CARECHAIN-NCD within Kilombero, Ulanga, Malinyi and Bagamoyo districts. The Clinician will be required to follow and abide to the KIULARCO protocol related activities and will be performing the training related activities. The candidate will attend patients at the Heart and Lung Clinic and Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), CDCI during community outreach according to the allocated duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in data collection at Heart and Lung Clinic, CDCI, public health facilities, and the community.
- Attend to patients with heart failure, diabetes, hypertension, asthma and COPD as per CARECHAIN-NCD scope.
- Learn to perform comprehensive sonography and echocardiography in the clinics and within another project operating areas.
- Learn to do research that aligns within the scope of the CARECHAIN, IMC, KIULARCO project scope.
- Data collection and management.
- Patient recruitment and consenting.
- Train other healthcare workers to perform comprehensive sonography and echocardiography in the clinics and within other project operating areas.
- Conduct health education and community sensitization about NCDs, and their interaction with HIV/AIDS.
- Coordinated MCT accredited courses within the Ifakara training platform.
- Be ready to work on any other relevant duties allocated by the project Principal Investigator and
Project Leader.
Qualification and Experience
- Minimum of a diploma in Clinical Medicine.
- Experience in quantitative data collection.
- Experience in qualitative data collection.
- Experience serving or attending patients with non-communicable diseases or HIV.
- Competent and certified on Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Skills and Competencies
- Fluent in Swahili language; fluency in English is added advantage.
- Interested in doing both clinical and research and field work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and able to collaboratively work in a team.
- Capable of interaction with district local leaders and village members.
- Result oriented.
- Professional attitude to work and clear work ethics.
- Adhere to IHI core values (Integrity, Initiative, Equity, Excellence, Accountability).
