Background

The Assistant Cook supports the Head Cook/Chef in preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for staff and contractors. This role involves food preparation, cleaning kitchen equipment, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring the dining area is ready for service in a high-volume catering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation:

• Assist in washing, peeling, chopping, and storing vegetables, meat, and other ingredients.
• Prepare basic breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, and side dishes.

Cooking & Service:

• Assist in cooking under the direction of the Head Cook.
• Arrange food displays and serving stations for meal times.
• Replenish food and utensils during service periods.

Sanitation & Hygiene:

• Clean all kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and equipment.
• Adhere strictly to food safety regulations (HACCP) and personal hygiene standards.
• Ensure the kitchen and dining area are cleaned thoroughly after each meal (mopping, wiping surfaces, waste disposal).

Inventory:

• Assist in receiving deliveries and properly storing food supplies (First In, First Out - FIFO).

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• High School Diploma.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cook's Assistant or Kitchen Hand in a high-volume setup (Hotels, Camps, Hospitals).

Certifications:

• Food Handlers Certificate / Food Safety Level 1 (Mandatory).

Physical:

• Ability to stand for long hours and carry heavy pots/utensils.
