POSITION Analyst - Operation Technology

DEPARTMENT UG - Mining

LOCATION Geita Gold Mine Tanzania

EMPLOYMENT STATUS Full Time

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Provide operational technology support to underground mining operations across Star & Comet, Nyankanga, and Geita Hill to ensure reliable network connectivity, communications, and technology infrastructure required for safe, efficient, and continuous production. Provide 24/7 operational support, including day and night shifts, for network connectivity associated with remote bogging operations and other underground mining technology systems. Support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, implementation, integration, commissioning, and ongoing support of underground Operational Technology systems, including SCADA and other mine automation and digital solutions.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Learn and follow safety requirements related to the role.
  • Consider what could go wrong and what needs to be done to work safely before starting any task.
  • Speak up in case any task cannot be done safely.
  • Continually look for new hazards in the workplace and report them to the supervisor.
  • Suggest ways to improve safety performance.
  • Promptly report all injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
  • Help others to work safely.
  • Troubleshoot underground Operational Technology network problems.
  • Carry out splicing and fusing of fiber optic cable for new installations and fault or damage repairs.
  • Install, test, and commission new underground OT infrastructure.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all underground OT systems.
  • Register all newly installed underground devices and update network topology.
  • Configure network devices for all underground OT devices.
  • Monitor all underground network devices to ensure optimal service availability.
  • Monitor the performance and stability of underground OT, particularly optic fiber infrastructure.
  • React to physical and logical violations of the OT infrastructure in a timely and effective manner.
  • Proactively ensure that the OT infrastructure is safeguarded against unauthorized physical and logical access.
  • Comply with underground Operational Technology system administration requirements.
  • Develop and implement the underground Operational Technology system register.
  • Comply with underground Operational Technology cyber security requirements.
  • Support safety and risk management for OT systems.
  • Document all changes and follow change management procedure.
  • Report any damage or intrusion in the underground OT network.
  • Keep abreast of technological advancements in the OT industry.
  • Deploy special projects and other duties assigned by Digital Technology and Underground Production Manager.
  • Identify new technologies that may be deployed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of production.
  • Deploy, test, and commission new OT systems.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

  • Degree, Diploma or Full Certificate (FTC) in Telecommunications Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Working at height certificate.
  • Industrial automation and rigging certification.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in network infrastructure installation in Operational Technology in large complex environments.
  • A minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience in fiber optic technology installation, maintenance, and administration.
  • Experience in the mining industry will be an added advantage.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent working knowledge of microwave and optical fiber transmissions, SDH and PDH, network security, CISCO Voice over Internet Protocol systems, and managed Wi-Fi.
  • Tactful and discrete when dealing with people and confidential information.
  • Good communication skills including a good command of English and Swahili, both written and verbal.
  • Must be able to drive manual transmission vehicles and have a valid Tanzania Driving License.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Positive attitude towards end users and team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Flexible and adaptable to technology changes.
  • Strong emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrate strong ethics.
