LVIA is looking for an Accountant/Administrator to support the ongoing EU-funded project, as well as future projects funded by different donors.
Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO working in ten African Countries including Tanzania with Headquarters in Cuneo Italy while in Tanzania our offices are in Kongwa District of Dodoma Region (P.O.BOX 160, Kongwa). LVIA has been working in Tanzania for more than 30 years in supporting the community development especially on agriculture, health, and the improvement of access to potable water and hygiene.
LVIA is looking for an Accountant to be employed within the EU-funded project “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani”, as well as to support future LVIA projects funded by different donors, all aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive development at community level, in close collaboration with Local Authorities and other relevant institutional and civil society stakeholders.
Responsibilities or duties
Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Country Representative the Accountant will be responsible of the following duties:
TASKS:
- Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee the financial management and reporting of the project in collaboration with the Project Coordinator, under the supervision of the Country Administrator in Dodoma and headquarters in Italy.
- Accounting & Day-to-Day Operations: Perform daily accounting tasks, including booking entries, issuing cheques, processing bank transfers, and conducting monthly bank and cash reconciliations. Keep the LVIA accounting software updated and verify monthly balances.
- Payroll, Taxes & HR Support: Manage monthly payroll for LVIA staff, ensure timely payment of taxes and insurance, and track staff annual leave.
- Procurement & Contract Management: Collect and analyze accounting documentation, manage on-site tenders, procurements, and purchases. Supervise all procurement procedures to ensure they are properly documented and fully compliant with EU PRAG (Practical Guide to Contract Procedures for EU External Actions) guidelines.
- Partner & Grant Verification: Review accounting documents from partner organizations and grant beneficiaries to ensure eligibility, accuracy, and full compliance with LVIA and donor requirements.
- Audit Preparation & Support: Organize and prepare all necessary documentation for internal and external audits, coordinate with auditors and project staff, and manage follow-ups on audit requests and findings.
- Task & Project Management: Utilize project management software (e.g., ClickUp) to assign tasks, track progress, store supporting documentation, and monitor deadlines to ensure timely completion of financial and administrative activities.
Qualifications or requirements
SKILLS:
- Able to give great attention to details, prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines
- Good interpersonal communication, detailed in the report writing and computing skills
- Be well organized and work independently and as part of a team
- Problem solving skills
- Sensitive to gender equality issues
- Proactive and genuinely interested in understanding and improving work processes, procedures and team activities
- Active and attentive during team discussions, with a willingness to listen to colleagues, contribute ideas and provide constructive suggestions
Requirements
ESSENTIAL:
- At least bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent & CPA Holder;
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience as Accountant, Finance officer or related, including supervisory experience;
- Previous experiences with international NGOs and donor funded projects
- Proven experience in preparing budgets, compiling & analyzing data, and preparing financial reports
- Experience in supporting international projects funded by different donors
- Knowledge of local laws, codes, and regulations in both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar Arcipelago.
- Proficiency in English and proven ability to write official reports and documents in English and Kiswahili;
- Computer literature, advanced Excel;
The Employee is expected to maintain a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to possible modifications and/or additions to the foreseen duties, based on needs that may arise locally, and to make an effort to integrate his/her work within the wider context of LVIA’s presence in Tanzania, in order to facilitate consistency and continuity among current and prospective projects. The Employee is also expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple and competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of performance and professionalism.
As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake a written and oral test in person.
