Overall purpose of the role:
DRC is one of the largest INGO protection actors in Tanzania actively coordinating and advocating for improving the protective environment for all communities. DRC has Legal, PSN, CBP, Child Protection and GBV programmes in its areas of operation to address protection issues faced by displaced and at-risk groups and individuals. The programme also aims to identify and build synergies with early recovery and development actors that are working on and are better positioned to address environment building activities.

The Protection Coordinator(s) has the overall responsibility for providing technical and programmatic support for DRC protection activities in the DRC areas of operations in Tanzania. The role will include harmonisation of tools, implementation of strategy and training to ensure DRC has a consistent and clear approach to protection across all sites. The Protection Coordinator will work closely with the Protection Manager in the finalization and roll out of the protection strategy including development of protection related advocacy messages using data driven evidence.

Responsibilities:
The Protection Coordinators shall conduct regular field visits and will be expected to perform the following duties:
Protection project and sector oversight
• Support development of the protection program strategy and based on yearly projected funding (Including locations and activities).
• Coordinate, plan and monitor Protection project activities in area, ensuring adherence to sector, donor and internal requirements and guidelines.
• Have oversight on the overall protection portfolio in geographic area, including identifying funding and capacity gaps.
• Hold regular meetings with all Protection TLs/PMs to understand programmatic challenges and technical support requirements. Highlight when programs are off-track in implementation for further discussion with the PM and AM. Identify any areas where further technical support, oversight or resources are needed.
• Ensure the highest quality of the sectoral interventions including adherence to best practice programming and minimum standards in coordination with the Protection Manager.
• Ensure coherence between all projects/activities ongoing and proposed, according to the overall DRC strategy.
• Ensure high quality and timely deliverables, narrative reporting and financial overviews, close cooperation with donors, Government counterparts and coordination mechanisms on site, and in synergy with other DRC interventions in the area.
• Formalize and develop project related operational tools and training modules, with support from the Protection Technical Coordinator.
• Provide input for monthly, quarterly, interim and annual donor reports, project proposals as well as ad hoc reports and communication items, as requested.
• Provide overall budget monitoring, financial management and expenses control for the project activities, including compliance with minimum DRC and donor requirements.
• Coordinate, monitor and support development and implementation of partnerships with implementing partners across multiple base offices.
• With the MEAL Manager, ensure a MEAL plan is in place and implemented for Child Protection activities and that the relevant Info Management systems are in place.
• Develop quarterly workplans with Protection TLs for support to each area.
• Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals and budgets for donors
• Participate in BFU meetings and update on budget/indicator achievements and delays.
• Contribute to and coordinate the design, implementation and evaluation of Protection related programming to secure follow on or expansion funding for the protection portfolio as per identified needs and in a standardized manner across programmes.
• Support new proposal design, including activity design and budgeting, along with PMs, where needed. Sign-off on all project proposals and budgets (related to protection activities).

Technical
• Provide technical assistance to Protection teams including development and roll-out of SOPs and guidance.
• Regularly review and provide technical advice on project workplans and implementation with Team leaders.
• Assist in developing the projects’ Monitoring & Evaluation tools
• With support from IMs and MEAL review and update of the Protection Monitoring system on an annual basis or as needed.
• Advise on internal protection MEAL tools and IM systems and integration with INGO PIM inputs.
• Work with the Protection Manager to provide regular technical trainings and capacity building to protection staff, partners, and on key DRC protection concerns and product solutions.
• Support the development of awareness curric.ula, IEC materials for the implementation of a comprehensive training and awareness package
• Ensure protection mainstreaming including review of all programming approaches, SOPs and tools, and staff capacity development
• Organize and facilitate regular Protection team meetings across two for knowledge sharing, peer support and quality improvement.
• Carry out sector needs assessments, as needed.

Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities);
To include, but are not limited to;
• Perform scheduled and random checks in designated areas throughout the facility to check for any security breaches or concerns.
• Coordinate with the other staff members to ensure that all guests, visitors, or clients are safely escorted in and out of their tents/rooms.
• Inspect guest, visitors or clients tents/rooms, public areas, and grounds for any breaches or concerns
• Ensure security and safety to all people and property on the property.
• Assist in carrying of guests, visitors, or client’s luggage.
• Other duties as assigned by the Camp Manager, Operation manager and Managing Director.
